Hello all!

This trip, Gary and I have scheduled extra time for our annual business planning meeting. I'll bet most of you didn't know we do that, but it's true. Each year since we started playing together (in 2000) we have made a list of goals based on our acoustic 'bucket list'. And with your help, we've achieved them every year .

In the beginning the list was modest - to find paying gigs or to find venues that might tolerate original music. Once we exceeded our first year's goals, we began to entertain more grandiose ideas, like recording CDs, entering (and winning) contests, opening for higher-profile artists and expanding our tours out of Houston, then Texas and even outside the United States. After 11 years, It seems like we can't shoot much higher. But it turns out - yes we can...

There are only two more significant things left to do. 1) to open for David Wilcox, 2) and to play the very last gig on earth. According to the Mayans, we have exactly 1 year, 2 months and 24 days to get this done. Since Wilcox is all booked up for 2012, we have only the second task in front of us. And since it will be the the last gig anywhere, we figure a $500.00 cover charge isn't too much to ask (since your money will be worthless on the 22nd, right?). We have attached a complimentary $500.00 bill to this note for you to print out and hang on your fridge. Please don't allow it to become obscured with crayola landscapes and cartoon magnets...

But in the shorter term, please plan to see one of the gigs listed below. If you can't see us for some unfathomable reason, you should go see our spiritual guru, Jack Saunders at his gig (listed right below ours - I mean, whose newsletter is this anyway?? :).

Saturday, October 29th, 8:00 AM - Imperial Farmer's Market - Highway 90 at Brooks Street (in the parking lot next to the mill)
Saturday, October 29th, 8:00 PM - JP Hops House - 2317 S. Highway 6 (wtih Kelly Lancaster!)
Sunday, October 30th, 10:15 AM - Theophilus Church - 502 Addicks-Howell Road (inside Wolfe Elementary)

or if you are inside the loop -
Saturday, October 29th, 8:00pm - McGonigels' Mucky Duck, 2425 Norfolk - JACK SAUNDERS BAND with his nephew's band from Dallas --- TWEED EQ

One final note - There's an open call for musicians and artists to help populate the schedule for a benefit to The Artery - a venerable Houston arts institution...
The Abrams Elsewhere House Concert and Artery Funraiser wil be held on Sunday, November 13, 2011 7 to 10 PM. Jeff Abrams is soliciting a few performers to play. Each performance would be 15 to 20 minutes. Anything from singer/songwriter to jazz to classical would be of interest, or anything in between.
If you know anyone who might be willing to perform, they can contact him at mediator7@aol.com or 713-817-0001. Send a link to your music. The Artery can make a top-quality video of your performance...

I am writing this note in the middle of packing for a Galveston mini-vacation and a mad dash to book a few artists into the farmers markets. Forgive me if my typong is not impriving!!

Gary conveys his thanks for the full rooms we enjoyed last week. I'll be visiting him twice next month to perform in the Wet Mountain Valley. The fans up there are just as nice and generous as they are down here.

I have a rare solo gig this coming Saturday 8:00pm at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 14700 Bellaire Blvd. The last time I was here I ran sound for George Ensle - what a great performer! The audience could not have been more supportive - There is a cover charge, and coffee/sweets will be served. The idea is to create a house-concert-like atmosphere. If you're a non-church-goer, we have arranged to suspend any rogue lightning :)

I ususally don't include the open mic I host 'as a gig', but this coming Sunday, the open mic is a bit more special. JP Hops House will be celebrating Spudstock - the observance of the anniversary of the Woodstock Music Festical AND Mr. Potatohead's birthday. Wear your tiedye best and anything with fringe or leather on it!

Since I started offering vocal instruction, my schedule has become pretty busy, but there are spots left, one on Tuesday evening and another on Wednesday during the day. For details, see www.tcsmythe.com . I'm not taking young children yet, but if you have an ambitious teenager in mind, let's talk about it!

Thanks for everything

TC

Hello all! (I noticed today that my email program has somehow been reset to 'save all sent', so there are probably a few of you who never intended to hear from us. If that is the case, just reply here and I'll remove your address. This note is going out to everyone, regardless of location, so please forgive us for the intrusion.)

BUT FOR THE WILLING...

Smythe and Taylor have five, count 'em five, shows in the Houston area this weekend - Gary misses the heat, I guess! :)

Friday - 7:00pm - Lomonte's Italian Restaurant, 14510 Grisby Lane. We recommend reservations if you want to sit on the patio. Call 281.496.0030. We'll be hosting a pre-show dinner at 6:00pm.. Join us!
Saturday - 8:00am - Bayou City Farmer's Market - 3000 Richmond - The market has been our favorite outdoor show for years.
Saturday - 7:00pm - Unity Church of the Bay Area - 1911 Highway 3 South (League City) - We're told that the elusive Tom Abell will be there!
Sunday - 10:00am - Highland Village Farmer's Market - 2450 Suffolk - S&T have never played this market!
Sunday - 6:00pm - JP Hops House - 2317 S. Highway 6 - Home again, home again jiggety-jig! The open mic is where we started our career, and we'll end it here too, but not till 12/21/2012. Make your reservations for that show now!!

***The New Wrinkle***
After much consideration (and no small amount of prodding), I've begun taking vocal students. Their goals are as different as the students are, so I have designed a number of different lesson plans. There is no contract of any kind, and the hourly rates are the same for every category. I'll be offering slots on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, as well as daytime hours (great for retirees!). Vocal testing and recordings included in all sections/programs. Sight reading is not taught or required. Children considered on a case-by-case basis. In-home sessions only. For details, visit http://www.tcsmythe.com/voice.html

Programs offered:
American Idol / Major Performance Coaching
Emergent Voices
Vocal support during studio recording
Harmony
Expansion of power & vocal range
Injured Voices

We look forward to seeing everyone!

Hey all -

I had a fabulous time playing music with Briam Kalinec and Ken Gaines last Saturday at Coffee Oasis in Clear Lake. I'm sure that Gary was just sitting at home alone in his mountain retreat, suffering and crying and green wtih envy... (no he wasn't- He went hiking - see attached) . We enjoyed a full house and each other's company. I consider Brian and Ken to be mentors and it was an honor to share a stage with them in this way.

But it's a new week and I have places to go! I've never been so geographically diverse!

On this Tuesday night, I'll be the featured performer at the West Gray Showcase in River Oaks, (Hefley's) 138 West Gray. The event is hosted by JW Wind and starts at 8:00pm and my spot happens at 8:45pm. Hefley's is a mighty nice watering hole that serves great food and has a full bar. (I've always been a rum-and-coke kinda girl). The venue has a brand new stage on the patio!

Also, on this Friday, Steve Daly and I will hold forth at the prettiest venue in Katy, The Cellar Door 829 S. Mason Road. The club can't be seen from the street, but you can find it if you go out I-10, turn south on Mason Road and turn left on Cimmaron Drive. It's in the shopping center right behind Einstein's. Rumor has it, there will be a full house, so if you're late, it's just like church - you'll have to sit in the front :). They serve tapas and wine, so plan accordingly.

A bit farther out, Gary will be in town with me from August 12-14th and we'll play no less than SIX gigs!. No rest for the wicked! Here's the list : RSVP please

Friday, August 12
1:00pm - Camden Royal Oaks - 11802 Meadowglen RSVP please
7:00pm - Lomonte's - 14510 Grisby Lane for patio reservations, call 281-496-0030
Saturday, August 13th
8:00am - Bayou City Farmer's Market - 3000 Richmond
7:30pm - Unity Church of the Bay Area - 1911 Highway 3 South,League City

Sunday, August 14th
10:00am - Highland Village Farmer's Market - 2450 Suffolk
6:00pm - where else? The Open mic at the Hops House! - 2317 S. Highway 6

And there's lots more in August too - check out the calendar at the Smythe and Taylor Homepage..

Pray for Rain!!!

July 13th

Hi again music fans!

This Saturday at 8:00pm, I have a rare opportunity to share the stage with two wonderful artists - Ken Gaines and Brian Kalinec. We'll be entertaining down in Clear Lake at Coffee Oasis, 4650 Nasa Road 1.

Ken Gaines hates it when we call him the "Godfather of Houston songwriters", but he was certainly an early influence on me and my decision to become a full time musician. I covered one of his tunes on my very first album, and had a recent opportunity to sing it to him at the Hops House. Of course I forgot the lyric :( - peer pressure, I guess. He was featured twice this year on the Kerrville Music Festival's Threadgill Stage.

Brian Kalinec was the president of the Houston Songwriters Association the year I joined, and he has never stopped being a leader in our community. I love singing harmonies on his tunes, and Gary and I have used his high level guitar playing skills on our CDs. Presently he heads up Berkalin Records .

The show will have a $5.00 cover - cheap at twice the price!

I hope this gives my friends on the south side a good reason to come out and support a local business!

See you there

TC

July 6th, 2011

The recap of last week's gigs will have to wait until I digest it all, but in the mean time, I encourage any and all to come see me and Steve Daly at the Highland Village Farmer's Market this coming Sunday (2450 Suffolk, just inside the loop off Westheimer.) at 11:00am or so. The vendors there are becoming big fans, and we think you;ll enjoy visiting with them too. Lots of markets have live music, and you can check them out at www.MarketMusic.org

***************
On an unrelated note, I always enjoy rattling my sabers when it comes to my profession, and the latest project is to draw attention to an ancient injustice that we musicians have endured lo, these many years, - yes, I dare speak of the evil that is known as CARRYON BAGGAGE INEQUITY !

Yes, dear friends, when most airline passengers travel, they are permitted a carryon bag of approximately 40 pounds and is limited to 10" x 16" x 24". In terms of actual space taken up in an overhead bin, this works out to 2,772 cubic inches. And each piece of checked baggage is covered for $1500 in case of damage - (except musical instruments which must be checked but are denied loss/liability altogether).

DID YOU KNOW-- that a standard guitar case, fully loaded, weighs ~21 lbs and contains only 2,600 cubic inches? It is only because they are long and skinny that they do not fit into the little sizing bin at the gate. However, they *do* fit into most overhead bins, (all but those on Continental Airlines).

Please help us reach parity by signing a petition that I will circulate to the FAA, the major aircraft manufacturers and airlines, and our lovely congressmen and senators. I have started an effort at http://www.petitiononline.com/CEFMI/petition.html . I am not asking for additional carryons or space - only the same amount of space that other passengers enjoy. I have pasted the first few brave signatures below. Won't you join them and share it with your friends? You do not have to be a musician to sign.

Many thanks,

TC

Hi folks -

It's hard to believe that Bob Dylan is turning 70 this month. In honor of his septegenarian anniversary, players at the Hops House open mic shall receive an extra song, if any of the following four criteria are met:

1) The Player's first, middle or last name is Dylan, Robert, Bob or Zimmerman;
2) A Dylan tune is performed.
3) If the player's birthday occurs in the month of May
as you can see, this bar is not very high :)

In other news:

I will be performing with the Hanshaws tomorrow (Saturday) at 6:00pm at Wings n More in the Woodlands (Conroe), 16581 I-45 . I've been having alot of fun with David and Kelly, adding 3rd part harmony to their original songs and covers. To learn more about them visit their website at www.thehanshaws.com

I also picked up a last minute gig with Steve Daly for 11:00am on Sunday at the Highland Village Farmer's Market. 2720 Suffolk Drive .

Steve and I are more widely known as 'Slap and Tickle'. We sat for a photo shoot yesterday with Rusty Winz, and I have to say, Rusty did a first rate job. I may not even have to photoshop them! If you want to see the pics, visit our website at http://www.slapandtickle.us Please use this link, as I cannot be responsible for what you will find if you make a typ-o!

Here's hoping for rain!

Hello acoustic fans!

We have a lot of good fun planned for this week and next. And a special favor to ask:

Saturday, April 30th - Steve Daly and I are breaking in a new venue way out in Katy! It's called the Cellar Door, and it's located at 829 S. Mason Road, right behind Einstein's. I first stopped by this place at the behest of one of my open mic friends, Ken Rosato. It is the prettiest venue I've seen in Katy. After Steve and I played their open mic, we asked for a gig, and the owner obliged with a single date on Saturday, April 30th. He is new to booking music, and it's very important to him that we get this place at least half filled up. Can you stop by and buy a glass of wine? I think this place has the best potential for our west-of-highway-6 fans. Let's convince the owner to continue booking live entertainment!

***********************
For those who are looking for their next Smythe & Taylor fix, we gotcha covered with some stellar shows!

Thursday, May 5th, 8:00pm - Anderson Fair! It's been many years since we've played this legendary venue, and we get to do it again! It's like a house concert, only you don't have to mow the lawn or get stuck with the dishes! It's located at 2007 Grant Street, behind Texas Arts Supply .

Friday, May 6th, 8:00pm, JP Hops House - the Annual Dylan Show - and yes, I'll be bringing the Dylan paraphenalia. Bob and I were born May 24th, but this year we're jumping the gun a bit - hope you don't mind.. Still haven't been to the Hops House? It's easy to find - 2317 S. Highway 6.

Saturday, May 7th, 7:00pm McFarland House Concert (San Antonio) - Our good friend, Milt pinky-swears that this is not a birthday party. Well, OK, Milt, whatever you say! This note is going out to our central Texas fans too - we can get you an address and an invite if you want to come. Just respond to this note.

Hello all!

After seeing the great feedback that our friends are getting by using ReverbNation as a communication platform, we decided to try it out for ourselves.  If you aren't into this kind of thing, you can unsubscribe yourself with the link at the top of the note.  We hope this doesn't feel like spam, and  we promise not to abuse this new tool.  Please let us know if you like it or not.  I ordered a sample hat that I designed from the new merchandise store we have, and will let you know if the product stands up to the quality of the thumbnail sketch. :)

UPCOMING SHOWS - The next Smythe and Taylor shows will be in April when we play a house concert in Houston and attend the Songwriters Serenade in Hallettsville, Texas.  If you know a songwriter, please let them know that they can submit material to this contest until March 13th and it's free!  I'm told there are *not* hundreds of entries yet, and the prize pool will award cash to the top 24 who enter and can attend.  I have participated in this event for the last two years and I can't tell you how much I have looked forward to returning.  It's one of the few opportunities I get to see my fellow writers.

We also have a show at Anderson Fair on May 5th, and road gigs in June, July and August in Texas, England and Colorado.  There's also a decent chance we will visit Japan, but probably not till 2012.  Thanks BB, for even suggesting this, and thanks to Gary for designing our travel fund formula which keeps us solvent enough for this kind of thing!

I have other exciting news too!  I've been asked to open for nationally-touring artist, Ellis Paul at Jeff Abrams' House concert on March 19th.  If you want to attend this marvelous show, email me at tc@tcsmythe.com and I'll get you the details.  We last shared a stage with Ellis back in '05 when Gary won the Woody Guthrie award in Oklahoma.

In unrelated news, we have a new design for the Smythe and Taylor website.  The cover photo was taken when we played the concert inside of Longhron Cavern in Burnett, Texas.   to see it visit www.SmytheAndTaylor.com .  I am also working on new websites for Jack Saunders and Robert Frith, as well as album artwork for local bluesman, The Reverend Otis.  His new CD, "Sweet Papa's Blues" is scheduled for a March release.  Mike Darnell has also decided to upgrade his web presence.  I'm not really a big-time designer, (like my friends, Sue Gaines and Selia Qynn) but I own my server, and what the heck, it costs nothing but time for me to set up a simple website.  If you want the bells and whistles, see one of these fine ladies..

I think that's enough for now!  Thanks if you got this far..

TC

Hi folks -

Gary is in the process of changing his email address to a more personal domain. He has purchased www.garytaylor.us . Right now it's a mirror of the Smythe and Taylor site, but I'm sure he'll eventually want to do something different with it. He's quite the man about town in Westcliffe and very busy volunteering as a board member and DJ with KWMV radio and handling booking for a local music venue with a REALLY nice promo.. If you want to ping him, use gary@garytaylor.us.

It's short notice I know, but wanted to let you know I have a few shows this weekend with some good friends. When Gary isn't in town, I have to fend for myself somehow!

For you early morning folks, I have an open air show tomorrow morning (Saturday) with Steve Daly at the Bayou City Farmer's Market - 3000 Richmond Avenue (at Eight in the frikkin' morning!) Always a good time - and playin' for tips!

Saturday evening I'll be with the smoothest vocal group ever-r-r-r-r-r- THE HANSHAWS from 6:00PM-10:00PM on the patio @ Wings 'n More 15135 I-45 North in the Woodlands/Conroe. No cover and great food!

On Sunday afternoon 1:00PM-3:00pm Steve and I will lay waste to the farmer's market at Discovery Green - possibly the prettiest market I know. Metered parking is free! 1500 McKinney (or thereabouts)

and of course I'll race over to the Hops House for the weekly acoustic open mic.

Thanks for opening this note!

TC

Hi everyone! You'll want to save this note to your hard drive becuase it has so many details and reminders. Better yet, print it out and hang it on your fridge!

I am really looking forward to the next few weeks, since I've been so busy remodeling my house. Paint started going up today, and I finally feel like this is the house I meant to buy back in '94. My nails are caked with paint and putty, and my back is killing me, but it's all been worth it so far. I've lost 12 pounds and when I'm done, I'll be able to reclaim my rightful title as "America's Top Re-Modeler" When it's all done, I'd like to have a house 're-warming' party and concert! If any of you are thinking of doing a remodel, let me recommend Mr. Kennth Gossett of Austin, Texas (zenny23us@yahoo.com). He's been just great. I'll also be using Jana Vanderarant (of the band Charm School) for my landscaping. The Rev. Dr. Otis just raves about her work and I can't wait to get started on that part.

My new duo, Slap and Tickle, (me and Steve Daly) is playing at JP Hops House this coming Wednesday night, January 26th. Every Wednesday, the HH pays homage to that well-known depression-era icon, the Soup Line! Each Wednesday, our customers bring in homemade gourmet soups to share, free of charge to any and all who come.in. Slap and Tickle will be the featured artists at this week's soup night. The soup bell rings at 7:00 pm when the house band starts (The Hard Times Trouladors featuring Bill Aspinwall and David Hanshaw) . We have a set at 8:00pm. If there is critical mass after that, we'll play another set. Be there or be a rhombus!

On Friday, February 11th, (8:00PM) Smythe and Taylor will return to The Bugle Boy in LaGrange. If ever there was a good excuse for a road trip, this is it! Gary and I don't get as many opportunities as we'd like to play in central Texas, but when we do, we try to make it a memorable show. The Bugle Boy is a listening room like no other, and is definitely worth the drive. If you want to make sure you get a seat, get your tickets NOW ! The Bugle Boy has recently installed very comfortable theatre-style seating and sponsors many local music education programs. It is without a doubt, our favorite Texas road venue! Lane - here we come! Have dinner with us at Bistro 108 before the show. They would really appreciate the traffic.

(Eight hours later )Saturday morning 8:00 AM, Februrary 12th, we'll make a stop at Urban Harvest's Eastside Farmer's Market (formerly the Bayou City market). We'll be there rain or shine, since the more pathetic you look, the better the crowd responds :-)~. Come wam us up with your applause. If the vendors can take the weather, so can we ! We play till 11:00am.

On Saturday evening the 12th, we'll be celebrating Fred and Linda Thompson's 44th wedding anniversary with a house concert at their home. Fred and Linda are great supporters of local songwriters, and their concerts are becoming a grail among local artists. Fred believes in the power of networking, so bring your business cards so you can play 'opportunity roulette' with your neighbors! To get an invite and directions, email audiofred@comcast.net. And bring as dish or a bottle to share! A love donation will be solicited - plane tickets don't pay for themselves!

No trip to Houston would be complete for Gary unless he has a chance to play at leat two farmers markets. Sunday, February 14th, we'll appear in an afternoon show at Discovery Green next to the beer garden from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Metered parking is free on Sundays!

Right after that, we're heading straight for the Hops House for the 6:00PM open mic. If enough of our fans are there, we'll do a featured set.

I think that's all you can take for now. I have more shows with Steve Daly and The Hanshaws in February, but those will have to wait for another missive.

Keep it warm!

TC, Gary (and Steve)

12/6/2010
Hi everyone~! I hope you're hungry!

Every Wednesday, the Hops House undergoes a symbolic transformation from a tavern into a depression-era soup kitchen. Three years
ago, Jim and Pam predicted the recession well before it happened, and we don't believe it has ended yet, so we continue to gather each
week to break bread together and enjoy a free soup buffet and live music from musicians that accept tips in exchange for their art. I am
proud to be this week's featured artist. The soup bell rings at 7:00pm. Special guest David Hanshaw will be sitting in on bass with the
house band, The Hard Times Troubadors, who open the show. You can bring a soup, or enjoy those offered by the regulars. Never been
there? Go to 2317 S. Highway 6. This show will be special because as they do every year around his time, the Hops House has adopted
two families that have fallen on hard times and need a little help to make the holiday bright. They are currently collecting $$ to provide
clothing & presents for nine children and their two working mothers. Be a sport and make a donation by the 16th. If you can't get there
Wednesday, please send your donation to me via paypal.com. (use tc@tcsmythe.com). I am donating my part of the tip jar to benefit
these kids.

and two more shows!

December 11th - 6:00pm
I'm with the Hanshaws at the 'Lights in the Heights' tour of homes. We're on the porch at 511 Highland Blvd. from about 6:00pm.

December 18th 6:00pm
With the Hanshaws yet again at Wings n More, 16580 I-45, The Woodlands 6:00pm-10:00pm
I've also been playing a few gigs with Steve Daly. We've begun adding more venues, and will release a schedule soon, so don't be
surprised if you hear more about a group called "Sunny Side Up". (they also call us 'Slap and Tickle'...)

Thanks to all who made the last few Smythe and Taylor shows so fun. It was a wild whirlwind of a weekend, but Gary is back safe and
sound in Westcliffe.

And thanks to all the folks who ordered their copy of Underground Folk~!

all the best,

TC

SEPTEMBER 2011
9/10 - S&T at the High Peaks Music Festival, Westcliffe, CO
9/12-17 Winfield again!

9/18/2010
We're home again after an outstanding trip to Colorado and Kansas. to recap -
On Thursday 9/8, TC flew into Colorado, and just about right away, we co-hosted a segment of www.KWMV.org's "Radio Your Way" show with DJ Roger Wise (formerly of KGNU who also loaned us the miracle tent that saved our guitars on 9/16 - more on that below).

The next day we drove out to Black Forest near Colorado Springs to perform at the The Black Rose Acoustic Society's packed house - We got the highly-sought-after 'rumble of approval' as the fans stomped the floor and we hope that means we'll be back soon. Thanks to Paul McCann for recommending us for the showcase. He was in attendance.

That weekend, The High Peaks Music Festival was held in Westcliffe (produced in part by Gary). We had a great time with all the bands and together, we filled the amphitheatre with more people than had ever attended an event in that venue before. 5 bands played for 6 hours in front of 350 people, which is about 100 more than the town's official population! The weather couldn't have been better.

For three days, we attended the the Walnut Valley Music Festival, in Winfield KS where the national championships for guitar, mandolin, fiddle and dulcimer are held. We failed in our bid to become co-champions in the flatpicking contest, not on account of lack of talent, but more because we didn't enter. (yeah right!) We camped with 2001 mando champ, Drew Horton's crew at Camp Avalon where we spent the evenings jamming with the Camp Avalon Allstars and the Django-inspired Swing Chicks. Drew and Mary Horton invited us, and we are eternally grateful. TC is already packing for next year's fest.

When you join a camp at any music festival, it is exptected that some sort of initiation will be foisted upon the newcomers. Drew and crew did not dissappoint! On Wednesday, they arranged nine TORNADOS to visit the area! The town's emergency siren went off just about the time that TC noticed "the most beautiful cloudscape EVERRRR". Hail began to fall and thousands of us rushed for cover under the bleachers' cinderblock foundation until the storm passed. While we were huddled together, one of the bands broke out in a rousing rendition of "I'll Fly Away".  The tangle of smashed tents and EZ-up canopies was something to behold in the aftermath, but thankfully, no one was hurt. We figured it would be better to tell this story now before it grows into exaggerated lore and legend.

This is what part of our camp looked like after the storm. But in just a few hours we had it whipped back into shape, complete with new awnings.

More night time drama
and here's Roger's miracle tent which was on of the few that weren't flattened when the storm hit. Both of our guitars were in this tent.
The very next day, the nice folks at Camp Group Theralpy had dug out enough to reassemble the stage for their presentation of the Front Porch Radio show where we were featured artists. The whole thing was podcast live on www.frontporchradio.net. They did a great job of creating an environment very similar to Prairie Home Companion, only it was under a big red and white striped tent. Felt kinda like a tent revival at Camp Stupid, only with more mandolins :)

and here are pictures of what we were all wearing during the cleanup! How many feet can you identify? If you see your own, email me here!

8/4/2010 - Hello all!
When I began assembling the newsletter, it became obvious that two weeks wasn't gonna fit onto one page!  This is a long
newsletter, but for those without the time to read, I have included lots of photos. We hope you all enjoy it - TC

This was our fifth trip to England in as many years. This one was special because I got to bring my family along with me. By all
accounts, my kids were on their *best behaviour* and Kenton did not disappoint the locals with his social and drinking prowess.
Andrew's dream of having a beer with his dad in a real pub came true and Casey got to attend animation class at the George
Abbot School down the street for their special activities week. Many thanks to Headmaster Maloney and Taskmaster Joel Pike
for that opportunity. Our camera died on the first day of the trip, so I don't have many pics, except those provided by a few of
our friends. I managed to surf up some of the missing images too.
First stop - Jul 15th - Lunch at The Compasses - Right after we got off the plane, Vivienne and Malcolm pulled up in an enormous 15-passenger bus and whisked us and our luggage away to a pub in the village of Gomshall called The Compasses. Andrew enjoyed his first legal beer and fish and chips with his dad.  (the fish and chips were already legal).  Right down the street from the pub we saw an old mill from the 1600's with the Tillingbourne river running right under it! It *was* a mill, after all.
There were so many people at the Johnsons' this year, that tents had to be pitched in the garden for the overflow of guests.  Kenton and I enjoyed sleeping in late at The Albany Inn Bed and Breakfast.  Every day, a tray would magically appear in the room with a ton of food. Another interesting feature was the 1/4 cubic foot tabletop fridge that was meant only to keep the cream cold. These people are deadly serious about fresh cream! Although the building is on a busy street, we never heard any noise, even with the window propped open. The only distribance was a cute squirrell that chirpped at the window when breakfast arrived.

Gig #1 - at the Albury Care Home, where we played a 1- hour show for Malcolm's mother, Millie and her friends. We have an extensive list of songs from the 30's and 40's. We were concerned that our british friends wouldn't recognize the american tunes, but it turns out that everyone saw "The Wizard of Oz" and knew most of the big American musical stage productions. Later on in the trip, we took Millie to lunch at the King's Head Pub and she still remembered everything. A really nice lady and we were glad to entertain her.
From July 15th through 18th we attended Guilfest, a multi-stage music festival in Guildford, just outside of London. For three days it was pretty much the same - wake up late, walk across the street to the festival, enjoy 6 stages of music, shop at the vendors, eat stuff that's not good for you, see the headliner, go out for dinner, get toasted, play until dawn and do it all again. It's hell, I tell you! It's become a tradition for Gary to play "Here Comes the Sun" at 4am, and then half an hour later, Malcolm shooes everyone off.  Another thing that made this trip special was that we were able to import our good friend Janusz Tytman from Warsaw, Poland to play mandolin with us at the festival. Some of you may remember hearing his talents on Gary's first studio record, "Down At Zeke's". We think he had a good time, cause he said, "Ze byl fantastyczny! Restauracja czynic go ponownie!"

I wish I had a bigger photo of our friend Tadeusz Chlabicz. He videoed nearly everything and took pictures. He and his wife, Danuta, used to run the Oczko Club in Warsaw where we used to play in Poland. He also provided transportation for Janusz while in country,

Gigs #2 & 3  - Guilfest - We had two stage gigs at Guilfest. One was on the Palace stage, (sponsored by the Palace Venue in Aldershot) and the other was on the Unison Stage (sponsored by the National Health Services Union.) In each case, the audiences were large and appreciative. I also learned that my tuner doesn't get along with UK electrical current..

Gary's favorite British rock band, 10CC played two stages - he swears it was the best show all year

Gigs # 4, 5 & 6 were afterparties that we played each night after the festival at the Johnson's house.  Each night, different artists would stop by to play a few tunes for the folks. Among them is Gavin Thomas, whose band, The Goldrush has become a fixture in british festival scene. We have him and his buddy, Rob Blackburn to thanks for the loan of a PA system. Gavin didn't need it becuase he was on his honeymoon with new wife, Ammie :)  They were in Antigua while we took care of his fans. Thanks, Gavin! These afterparties are epic! They start at about 11:00pm after the festival closes, and lasts until at least 4:00am.

Each night Kenton gathered up hundreds of glasses and did the dishes. Yeah, that's my man!

Sightseeing in London. Without getting into too much detail, The Smythes toured London in open topped busses and enjoyed a cruise on the River Thames. Our lungs are still heaving from the 1000-step climb to the golden gallery at St. Paul's Cathedral. About 2/3 the way up, Kenton had an agoraphobia episode, buthe managed to overcome it and enjoyed the view (far right). Way to motor through, honey! We also saw the Tower of London and Trafalgar Square where I had the worst milkshake EVER. I swear it was like chocolate snot! I wont' say where it was..

For Gary, it was all about the art. He found his way to the British Museum, the Tate Modern Art museum and the Cartoon museum.

He managed to avoid buying anything too kitschy, but we did get a nice gift for Jack from Stratford Saye, home of the Duke of Wellington

Gig #7 - Jul 22nd - House Concert at the Silver's in Oxford for 65+ new fans - the first house concert ever in Oxford! Our hosts, Pat and Les Silver laid out a spread of food that took days to prepare. It included salmon pate, liver pate and a huge tray of rare sliced roast beef. The side dishes were too numerous to mention.  The music was well recieved, and the CDs went flyin off the shelf, thanks to Vivienne's sales ability.  Let's hope that the House Concert idea spreads in the UK.   Pictures to come..

Gig #8 - Jul 23rd - The Eight Bells pub, in Eaton where we learned to play a game called "Aunt Sally". Gary knocked her head off 7 times! Kenton played cribbage with the regulars and was presented with a strap of Horse brass commemorating Montgomery's campaign from Alamein to Berlin. A huge honor, since they aren't easy to come by. For the gig, the owner, Tommy set out a fabulous buffet for the fans.  These tavern gigs are the way to go! Gig #9 - Jul 24th - The Guildford Tup. The Tup has booked Smythe and Taylor each year we have visited. For this gig, we subbed for Gavin Thomas. For a Sunday night, we expected a thin crowd, but wow - we were wr-wr-wr- wrong!! The crowd was lively, so we let the blues loose on 'em! Our friend, Phil Mitchell provided music while we took a breather.

Gig #10 - The King's Head - This pub was competing for the Guldford in Bloom award. Each year, business all over town compete in a regional beautification event designed to boost tourism and local busiensses. Unfortunately I was unable to find any photos of this pub or it's entry online. You'll just have to trust us that it was the prettiest place to have a beer!

Gig #11 - The Compasses - Our last night was spent right where we started - at The Compasses in Gomshall. We decided not to advertise it because we wanted an intimate crowd. I left my last vocal cord here. We were joined by Will Shackelford, who hosts an open mic at Tickled Ivory which we visited after the Tup gig. He's a tremendous guitar player, and played a truly well crafted song about his new baby (awww!) During the gig, local visual artist, Stefan Morier presented us with a painting he made during our gig at the Tup. It was too big to bring back, so we'll get it scanned for use as a future album cover. He is a really talented guy who designed a limited edition T-shirt for the festival.

The owners were pleased with the vibe and have invited us back to play again next year.

We're already saving up frequent flyer miles to do it again.

If you've made it this far, you *are truly* hardcore! Heres the upcoming gigs! Call Gary at 719-371-7324 for directions to the Colroado gigs..

Shoulder To The Stone -
Saylor White said it best, "We know where the money’s going. We know who we’re giving it to. And we know how it’s going to get there."
and I agree with Saylor. We can't save the world, but we CAN save this Haitian orphanage. 'STTS' is a music CD compilation. 18 of our
friends contributed their songs royalty-free to the project. The CD is on sale at the Hops House for $15, and exclusively online at
http://www.mytexasmusic.com . KHOU-TV, the Houston CBS affiliate, ran a story on our efforts: and the Chronicle also did a nice piece on it.
We hope to see you all soon!
4/7/2010
Hello all! Three items on the agenda today - 1) a new friend to introduce, 2) a few shows to announce, and 3) a recap of the
"Shoulder To The Stone" project.

1. Introducing Steve Daly!
Steve has been frequenting a number of open mics around Houston, so it was only a matter of time before he came to the Hops House. He has a great pop sensibility, and has been making sure I don't lose my guitar chops in Gary's absence. We played a show last week at a sports pub in Sugarland, and we thank so many of you for coming out to support us. The pub owner was WAY happy about it! After only a handful of rehearsals and a single show, it's beginning to sound like a real act! In this configuration, we play mostly covers by great songwriters, as well as a few of our own. Make it out to the next show if you can! Sunday, 4/11 - 2:00pm - Churchhill's Sports Grill- 16687 W. Airport Blvd. - Sugar Land (It's near FM 1464). We had a fabulous time here last week and the new speakers sounded great!!

2. Gary flies down twice in April! We have an action-packed weekend planned for April 15-17th.

Thu 4/15 - 7:00pm - S&T appear with Steve Daly @ The Cresent Moon Wine Bar, 440 Rayford Rd. - Spring, Tx. This venue has been redecorated as a tuscan style bistro, only bigger! Great food, too. If you're a northerner, we could use your attendance here!
Fri 4/16 - 6:00pm - Rob & Judy's "We're finally eligible for Medicare" Party! JP Hops House - 2317 S. Highway 6. We did this show five years ago for our good friends and the place was packed! This time it's open to the public, too.
THREE SHOWS ON SATURDAY -
Sat, 4/17 - 8:00am - Bayou City Farmer's Market - 3000 Richmond Ave. We'll never tire of playing this venue. Last time we played, a lady put some 1960s silver dollars in our tip jar! Can't beat that!
Sat. 4/17 - 2:30pm - Camden Royal Oaks - a short set for the folks in this active seniors community.
Sat. 4/17 - 7:00pm - Never been to a House Concert? This is a great one! at Mary Jane Newton's in Mission Bend - RSVP by replying to this note!
For the second trip, we'll be repeating a fun annual event - Bob Dylan's birthday. It'll be All Bob All Night! We'll be joined by our spiritual guru, Jack Saunders, who has probably forgotten more about Dylan than we'll ever know! Bring your Dylan albums and posters to decorate the stage!
Fri 4/30 8:00pm - Hops House, 2317 S. Highway 6. Dylan Nigth w/Jack Saunders
Sat. 5/1 - 8:00am - Bayou City Farmer's Market - 3000 Richmond Ave
3. Shoulder To The Stone - Progress Report - $1,400 and counting
For several weeks, me and lots of my musician friends here in Houston have been sending out notices through facebook about the work we are doing to try to help a hatian orphanage and another fellow who lost everyone but his brother in the earthquake. We know many of you are suffering news fatigue about it, but this is an opportunity for you to personally connect and help with a very reachable goal. Saylor White said it best, "We know where the money’s going. We know who we’re giving it to. And we know how it’s going to get there."

and I agree with Saylor. We can't save the world, but we CAN save this orphanage. There are 2500 of you getting this note. If we average a $5.00 donation each, the whole thing would be done!  Wouldn't that be great?

18 of our friends also contributed royalty-free songs to the project. The CD release event happened this past weekend at JP Hops House and was filmed for a documentary for which I am mixing some of the music. The CD is on sale at the Hops House for $15, and exclusively online at http://www.mytexasmusic.com .

KHOU-TV, the Houston CBS affiliate, ran a story on our efforts: and the Chronicle also did a nice piece on it.
If you don't happen to collect CDs yourself, you can make an online donation at http://www.shouldertothestone.com.

March 21st, 2010
Hey everybody!

We hope you have all recovered from your St. Patrick's Day merriments. Just a short note here to let you know that Rob and
Judy Mood made videos of a bunch of the songs we did for St. Patty's Day. Despite me fighting vocal cord gremlins (they
weren't really that bad) , Gary's musical & comedic skills helped deliver a great show and we thank all of you who filled the Hops
House for us. The soups that the regulars brought in were FABULOUS! They do this every Wedensday night, and you should
make it out some day if you can.

We'll have another round of shows in April. Check the schedule at http://www.smytheandtaylor.com
.
Here's the link to the youtube channel where you can find it all! http://www.youtube.com/user/smytheandtaylor#p/u

Raaaaaaa-MEN!!!!

The S&T Colorado gigs from TC's Point of View -

Day 0 - Left work last Thursday about 4:00pm to catch the plane for Colorado. Since most of our gigs would be at 8,500' or higher, it seemed
a good idea to arrive the night before. Thanks to my co-workers, Irene and Glynis at Re/Max Westside for covering me so I could go. The plane
landed after dark, so I had to wait until the next day for the view.

Day 1 - When I woke up and looked out the breakfast room window at Gary's place, I could totally understand why Gary and Kathy retired here. Jesus Christ, what a view! There were snow-covered peaks for 50 miles in each direction. We spent the day going over a few tunes, had lunch at an Uruguayan steakhouse (in a town of 400 people?!?) and that evening, played a gig at Edwardo's Mexican restaurant in Westcliffe. Gary's wife, Kathy, has a band of her own called "The Cliffy Chicks" and they played a big opening set for us on guitar, bass, and accordion.  They totally rocked! Also got a big surprise when Paul McCann (formerly of Stan and Paul/HP in Houston) made a surprise visit from Colorado Springs. That's a long way to go to get live music!

Day 2 - Slept in again while Gary attended a naturalist seminar, and Kathy went to work in a nearby town where she practices as a physical therapist. When he got back, we drove out to see Bishop's Castle. The builder has singlehandedly erected a monument to individual productivity and libertarianism. He's welded every piece himself, and mortared every stone.

That afternoon, we drove 30 minutes down dirt roads to the town of Rosita to play the main event, a house concert at Drew and Mary Horton's Garage Majal. Drew's group, The Crestones (named for the mountains you can see from there) opened the show with some great standards and neo-jazz. The crowd was very cool, and all drove some distance to take in the live music.

Day 3 - Woke at an ungodly cow-milking hour to play the 8:00am and 10:00am services at the Westcliffe Community Methodist Church. We opened for (Pastor) Steve Miller who delivered a sermon written around the theme in Gary's songs, "I'm Takin' It With Me When I Go" and "Heaven's Not The Great Beyond". It was very interesting to hear how he would spin these very progressive songs, and believe it or not, lightning did not strike us as predicted. An mp3 of his sermon is posted here if you missed church last Sunday… Right afterward, we motored out to Rosita to play an encore for a completely different group of folks at the Garage Majal.

Day 4 - Normally, I wouldn't bother talking about the return flight, but this is an exception. Had to get up early to make the 3-hour drive back to Denver and catch the cheap flight back to Houston. Finally got to see all the scenery I missed on the way in. Once on the plane, I was a little distressed to see no less than TWENTY babies on the flight. Apparently there was an educational event in Denver on breastfeeding that ended Sunday, and everyone was going home. I've never seen flight attendants so rattled, but really, the babies were very quiet, being constantly fed. The big excitement came when a gentleman in my row passed out in the bathroom and delayed debarkation for 30 minutes..

Gary will be returning this week to play more gigs - the last we have scheduled in Houston for 2009. So if you missed him three weeks ago, this is your big chance...

Thu. 6/18 6:00pm Lomonte's - 14569 Grisby Lane
Fri. 6/19 6:00pm The First Tee - 12965 Whittington W/WILLIE B!!

Sun. 6/21 1:00pm Wild West Antique Market (5007 FM 359)
Wed. 6/24 7:00pm JP Hops House (2317 S. Highway 6)

We'd like to thank everyone who sent kind words about our success at the Academy of Texas Music Awards...We are already planning a rendezvous with our fellow
nominee for vocal group of the year, Moon and the Starz (Richard Bowden) and gigs at two locations in Palestine. Look for us at the Words and Music festival in Marshall,
Texas, too.

We also had a large time at our third visit to Milt McFarland's annual non-birthday bash in San Antonio. If anyone has pictures, please send 'em along. Thanks to Terry
Clarke for introducing Milt to JPHH and S&T. We appreciated all who came out for our shows at Sweet Mesquite and Dunn Bros. Coffee House. Thanks to Fred Thompson
for being Gary's chauffeur on his last trip. TC's day job is going well, but of course that presents logistical challenges. It takes a village, folks!
KPFT's quarterly fund drive is coming up next week - Do us a favor and support the only station in Houston brave enough to play S&T's music. Tune in Monday from 3p-5p
or just make your online donation today at http://www.kpft.org/index.php?option=com_dtdonate&Itemid=122 don't forget to put the phrase "HAAM Radio Show" in the
comment box so the shows gets credit.

TC has a few rare solo gigs on the horizon. The next will be Sunday 5/16 9:00am @ the LaCenterra Farmer's Market in Katy. Look for the white canopies on the west
side of the mall.

It'll be a big newsletter, so we'd recommend waiting to read this until you have a big espresso beforehand....I wish we had pictures, but those will have to come later -
our hands were beyond full!

The weekend started in Hallettsville, whereTC was invited to perform as a semifinalist in the Hallesttsville Songwriter's serenade. The nominees list read like a who's who
of the Houston songwriting elite, featuring Saylor White, Mark Beets, Matt Harlan, Carrie Ann Buchanan, and many others. Tom McDaniels was the show's primary sponsor
and he hosted a Friday night dinner and song circle for all of the contestants on his fabulous 400-acre spread outside Hallesttsville. The songwriters enjoyed a catered dinner
under the stars and had such a nice time getting reacquainted! The song circle lasted till the wee hours. TC advanced to the top 10 and during the finals on Saturday,
Bill Passalaqua of Schulenburg took home the top prize of $500.00. It was really nice to hear so many of our friends - since we all work on the same nights, we never get to
see each other except for these rare events. I'd have to say that the highlight was hearing Saylor and Mark pair up on vocals and guitar on the song, "Good News" - a biting
commentary of what Jesus was *really* trying to say before he knocked over all the moneylenders' tables....

On Saturday, Gary drove 12 hours from Colorado to meet TC in Palestine (that's pal-uh-STEEN) where we played the grand opening for the new Whistle Stop Cafe for a
pre-awards' showcase gig. The venue is a classic shotgun design, with hand-carved table trim, and dual window-stage frontage. The demographic of the crowd was a perfect
match for our set list and who should stroll in, but Houston songwriting legend, and ATMA show emcee, Ken Gaines. We played an extra set for the die hards. This is sure
to become a stellar live music venue! We'll be back for sure..

On Sunday, we arrived at the Palestine Civic Center to soundcheck and attend the artist's orientation meeting for the 'big shew'. Founder, Lucky Boyd shared with us the
humble beginnings of the awards as well as our stage plots and procedures. The preparation took nine mohths of hard work from 76 local volunteers who we can't thank
enough! When the festivities began, we were chauffeured in by half a dozen Cadillac Escalades to the red carpet where we were photographed by papparazzi and
interviewed by the press. We chose to walk alongside Duane Bradly (general manager of KPFT) who was nominated for Broadcast Station of the Year. He was harried and
haggard from having attended the Houston International Festival but still made time to come out and honor the station's nomination.

During the show, TC ran the audio/video table so each nominee could enjoy seeing their pictures and music clips on the huge overhead screen in front of a thousand l
ookers-on. When our performance spot came up, it was a mad dash to jump backstage, plug in the guitars and play a song with Gary. Before the curtain closed, she was
unpluggin to rush right back, but SURPRISE! It was announced that S&T had won the Vocal Group of the Year award. She nearly choked on her water bottle and had to let
Gary to deliver the acceptance speech. Since we had been nominated six times in the past he compared us to Susan Lucci and went on to thank the Moods, the
Thompsons, The Johnsons of Guildford, Janusz Tytman and Marek & Agnieszka Kruk of Poland, Jack Saunders (for 6 great albums) The Bugle Boy, The Hops House, our
spouses and anyone who had ever put a dollar in our tip jar! He only had 30 seconds, and had to talk so fast!! Immediately afterward, we were whisked away in golf carts
to take pictures in the lobby and give autographs before TC could return to relieve Lucky at the AV board for the rest of the show. Congratulations to our Houston friends,
Connie Mims (for taking home the gold in the Songwriting category), and to Ben Morris, (former JP Hops House open miccer) for bagging the Live Band of the Year award.
We're told that Michael Martin Murphy led a reunion of the Lost Gonzo Band during the afterparty, but we coulnd't stay.

We enjoyed seeing many old friends including the Hanshaws, the Kalinecs, the Bradleys (go KPFT!), Hank Woji, Grady Lee, Lucky and Jinelle, Robert Frith, Ken Gaines,
Melissa Sambrooks, Mark Zeus, Byrd and Street, Richard Bowden, etc, etc. We also appreciated the opportunity to perform in a show that featured Michael Martin
Murphey in concert with his original Cosmic Cowboy Band, including Gary P. Nunn and Bob Livingston.

Gary’s drive home was made more enjoyable by listening to brand new CDs from four friends – Bill Aspinwall, Mike Darnell, Steve Price and Hank Woji – thanks, guys
for many great tunes! If you don’t have these CDs, well why not? You should. You can get 'em all at www.mytexasmusic.com

Enough of that for now - Upcoming gigs include (Gary has to return to Houston this weekend!)

Thu 4/30 7:00p Dunn Brothers Coffee (Briar Froest @ Eldridge) which will be a laid back set or two – come make requests
Fri 5/1 6:30p Sweet Mesquite, (Dairy Ashford) Just the best nachos in the world!
Sat 5/2 7:00p House Concert for Milt McFarland's (San Antonio), a favorite S&T annual road gig. If you want to attend, you'd better email us NOW!!

Hi everyone! Due to recent demand on iTunes and the encouragement around my first solo gigs, I have decided to re-release my 'first-second' album, which was produced
by Jack Saunders. I was a brand new writer at the time, and I harvested eight of the songs from my favorite local writers. (I'm sure they'd like to start recieving checks again!)
I rushed to get it to market and never even sent it out for a review. I have ordered 100 new copies, and they will be available for $10 each starting today. I have also
revamped my old website, http:/www.tcsmythe.com .

CALENDAR UPDATE - Just the other day I sent out a newsletter for Smythe and Taylor with 17 dates attached. I found out today that there were errors in the list,
(including a cancellation and two new gigs in Colorado and Houston) so please see the below for the updated list. We hope to see you at one of these gigs! THANKS,
and welcome to the new website!!!

Before my daughter left for school this morning, she was tearing through my closet looking for a western-style shirt and boots to borrow. These days, you don't see
many teen girls rifling through their mother's closets, so I had to ask, "What the heck are you doing in my things?"

"MAAAAAAAHM!!!! It's 'Go Texan' day at school!"

Of course - I remember dressing up for school this way every year when the rodeo would come to town. I didn't know they were still doing it.

So she rode off into the sunrise in an ill-fitting shirt and boots (my 'mom-jean' 501's were OUT of the question), and she looked like Porter Wagonner's worst nightmare!

So, just to add insult to injury, and unbeknownst to her, I sent her history teacher this video from Smythe and Taylor - I'm sure they'll have lots to talk about during
class http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXIIGi2Amu8

were disappointed. Your next bowl of soup is on me:) - TC

******************************
but now, the NEWS......

Looking back to Wednesday, we'd like to thank the folks at Parkway Place Independent Living Center for inviting us out. We went straight there from the airport. S&T
have developed a nice set of music from the 30's to the 50's just for this purpose. If you want us to entertain your folks or grandfolks, just have their Activities Director
give us a call at 832 715 5226. These shows almost never confict with our evening gigs and they are quite affordable! We have exactly ONE opening for this on the 20th.
First call gets it!

After that gig, we went to see The Hard Times Troubadours with special guest Hans York at The Hard Times Soup and Music Kitchen. We had heard many nice things
about Hans, and we were not disappointed! Imagine a cross between Keb Mo, David Wilcox and Jack Williams. Funny songs, too! He played several others gigs that
week, and we heard they were all wonderful!

On Thursday it was great to see so many folks out at JP Hops House. We really had a good time digging back into the S&T archives. Thanks for all of the requests. As
always, a big shout out to Jim and Pam for hosting all of us musicians. If we missed playing your favorite songs, you can request them again at two more shows we
have slated at JPHH: Our third annual O’Smythe and O’Taylor St. Patrick’s day show (Saturday, March 14th) and our third annual Bob Dylan BD show (Saturday,
May 23rd) with our good friend Jack Saunders. TC likes to point out that she was born on Dylan's BD, and not the other way around :) You can see a video of last
year's show on our homepage - http://www.smytheandtaylor.com

Friday, we had some time off so we enjoyed seeing The Hanshaws at Lomonte’s and Mark Zeus/Wayne Wilkerson at Sweet Mesquite. They make a really nice combo!
and we even got to hear Wayne sing a LEAD!!! and he was GOOD!!

On Saturday morning we enjoyed seeing our Urban Harvest friends at the Bayou City Farmers Market, including Janice, Mickey, Ray and Mr. Hatterman (the egg man -
Koo Koo Ka Choo), etc, etc. The vendors reported strong sales with Bruce the orchid man being in the cat bird’s seat, it being Valentines Day and all. Thanks to
Van Buchanan for hanging out with us and singing some songs. (He’s being featured this Wednesday at JPHH soup night – go see him.) We love doing that three part
harmony. It was a first for us as we sang straight from 8:00-12:00 straight with no breaks. Counting up all the songs we missed we calculated that we have between
14-15 hours of material without relying on lyric sheets. And that doesn’t include our Dylan night stuff. “Desolation Row” and “Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream”, etc. would a
dd another few hours, easily! Don’t get us started…
*******************************
We only have two gigs next weekend, and they're both on Saturday! The market at 8:00am and Lomonte's at 6:00pm. For maps and details, visit our home page at
http://www.smytheandtaylor.com .
thanks everyone!
TC and Gary

December 31, 2008
Hey everybody!!

The Texas Music Awards are the closest thing Texas artists have to the Grammys, and to be nominated is always a privledge and can open doors that are normally
closed to independent artists. We were nominated in 4 categories the last time, but lost them all (to the same act!) by a very narrow margin! The work on our latest
studio album may be the best opportunity we have to finally win one.
We qualify for most of the categories, but we would like to focus on a few specific things, in particular, the song "Hope". This song has a unique perspective on the
Iraq war and has a very unbiased and realistic message no matter who the president happens to be. It's a fine piece of writing, too. Before you decide to vote, please
listen to it here: http://www.smytheandtaylor.com/music/cwm/hope.mp3
Here are the categories we feel are a good fit for this project. Thanks in advance for your support. Nominations open today and end in two weeks. Forward to
everyone you know!! You don't have to live in Texas to vote and you can nominate multiple artists for the same categories, too!!

So, keep this window open and visit http://www.texasmusicawards.org/nominate/ to cast your vote. You have to include the details as described below:

1. Song of the Year (Song title, Album, Artist) Hope, Come What May, Smythe and Taylor
4. Vocal Duo or Group of the Year - Smythe and Taylor
5. Producer of the Year (Album title, Artist) - Jack Saunders (we can't thank him enough!)
6. Record of the Year (Song title, Album, Artist) - Hope, Come What May, Smythe and Taylor
7. Album of the Year (Album title, Artist) - Come What May, Smythe and Taylor
11. Singer/Songwriter of the Year (writer)- Gary Taylor
See you guys in March and May!

Hi folks -

I made a typo in the note yesterday - the address and map for the open mic tonight were correct, but the venue is NICK's - (and not Rick's). My New Year's Resolution
is never to make another typo in an email as long as I live. See you there (on Wilcrest just north of Briar Forest).
In the mean time...

I recieved the below announcement from our friends in England. They have a very nice selection of wines in their home, and we have consumed many bottles with them
over the years. The wine lovers in our crowd will be particularly interested... Read on...

This year, a group of Napa Valley vintners (who primarily produce Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio wines) are courting the over-40 crowd. Over the holidays, they
will be introducing a new red wine with a genetically-engineered grape that contains an anti-diuretic. It is expected to reduce the number of trips to the bathroom by 65%.
The new wine will be marketed as ...

thanks to the Moods for providing lodging for Gary this evening... We had picked out a bridge for him to sleep under in Terry Hershey Park, but this seemed a better choice :)

After the market gig, we’ll be motoring off to Canyon Lake to appear at the newly-established Olive Hill House Concert Series, hosted by Judy Golden, mother of local

riverbarge!!

A few of our fans have joined us on our annual music cruises out of Galveston, but many of our maritime-crazy fans just want a peek at this 800’-long vessel. It's not a
cruise ship, and it's not a paddlewheeler, either. Surprise!! The activities director (Monica Daigle) has given us special permission to bring as many fans as we like aboard
for a free happy hour, a show, and a tour of the vessel led by (drum roll) TC and Gary! And the best part – there will be no sales pitch!! If you’re interested, you have to let
us know in advance who you are bringing so we can fill out the Coast Guard visitors roster. Please RSVP to this email address tc@tcsmythe.com and let us know which
day you'd like to come down. If you'd like to have dinner on the island between the Tour and the show, Rob and Judy Mood will be leading a caravan on the 10th. Many
thanks to REL Excursions for our lodging, even though we won't be sailing this time! We are very excited to show off this most unusual venue!
Please write back if you need more details about any of these shows!

The open mic will follow, but will start later than usual.
We have several dates in December, including two rare 'docked' shows onboard the Riverbarge in Galveston! If you'd like to come aboard to see the show, let us know.
We'll try to get a set of group passes for folks who want to tour the barge and see what all the fuss is about. Ordinarily you'd have to be a passenger to get a peek. We'll
be sailing with them for five legs in February and March.

Gary is doing just fine up in the mountains and at last report was busy painting and carpeting his retirement nest. He promises to send pictures as soon as it's all done.
Casa Taylor has already seen a few guests, most recently Tom Tranchilla (of the HAAM radio show) who will be playing selections of S&T's music on KPFT 90.1FM this
very afternoon! Tune in at 3:00pm!

That's all for now.
TC

DATELINE - August 26, 2008

Hello again folks - it's been awhile since the last newsletter - busy time of year with TC's kids back in school, and Gary's new homestead already
seeing guests. He ain't-a kiddin' about that open guestroom. If you make the trip, he'll make breakfast!
The webpage has undergone a couple of changes, mostly to get rid of clutter. Check it out at http://www.smytheandtaylor.com . Oh yeah - and turn
on your speakers or plug in your headphones now - we'll be serving up a couple of audio files in this issue.

Blast From the Recent Past -
Recently, TC joined forces with Jen Rathbun at the intimate Ace Theatre for an evening of upbeat acoustic and racy cabaret numbers.  The chemistry was right on, and the
audience enjoyed being innundated with innuendo!  Inhibitions were shed as well as TC's shoes which almost didn't come down from the light rigging... The Ace Theatre is an
interesting space that usually features the dramatic arts, but once a week, they host a musical act. They've featured most of our friends by now, and if you're ever on the North
side near 45 and 1960, you should check them out. Jen and TC have already been invited back for a repeat performance! Stay tuned...
Gary had a couple of road gigs in Florida and Colorado with former members of his old band, Oil Field Grass, to play a pair of weddings. In Denver, OFG was joined by Prairie
Dog Companion from Fort Collins. A good time was had by all and the weddings came off without a hitch (well actually they did both get hitched). Gary recently visited Victor,
Colorado, site of the infamous Zeke’s Café and was sad to see that Zeke’s has finally been closed down. Victor has a ghost town feel to it but is still fun to visit. The original
”Zeke’s Place” from the song still stands with it’s fading sign.

The Pleasant Present
We are pleased to announce that TC’s song “The Yard Man” from her CD, “And Then Some” will be part of the Houston Association of Acoustic Musicians (HAAM) second
compilation project. This CD is a collection of songs written and performed by members of the Houston Association of Acoustic Musicians.   If you pick up this CD you'll be
adding alot of great music to your CD player and we're honored to be included. As soon as they're out, we'll let you know where you can get them.
Smythe and Taylor have been pleased to be featured on several compilations in the past, such as, “Peace from the Porch”, “Live from the Bugle Boy”, HAAM #1 compilation,
various HFBSA compilations, “Thanks, Bob” (Bob Dylan) shows, and last but not least, we were pleased to be included with Herman the German on “Live at the Enclave”
produced by our own Robert Nathan in Austin. email us here if you'd like a copy of the new compilation project.

..and on the Horizon
S&T have been invited to play aboard the Riverbard R/B Explorer again in December and February.  If enough folks are interested, we might be able to get a group rate. let us
know if you' have any 'use-it-or-lose-it' vacation to burn through.  If not, you'll have to catch us here in town.  We'll get the dates for those trips this week. We'll also be available
for house concerts while Gary's in town. If you're interested in that option, give us a ring at 832 715 5226. Never hosted a house concert before? Well, it's easy! Check it out
at http://www.houseconcert.us

WEATHER ADVISORY - THE HURRICANE WILL BE GONE BY WEDNESDAY, and even if it isn't - you can't be a wimp and live in Texas anyway...
We're back from our visit to England where we had a LARGE time with all the folks at Guilfest - thanks again to our hosts, the Johnsons, and everyone that came along
for the ride.. As soon as the dust clears, we'll cull the best photos and post them to the website. There are some humdingers, too!

On the immediate horizon we'll be appearing at three venues this week to promote the release of two, count 'em, TWO brand new CDs. The first CD is called "Come
What May" and is a studio recording we made with (who else?) Jack Saunders at White Cat Records. It features our friends, Brian Kalinec, Kelly Lancaster, Wayne
Wilkerson, Patrick Brennan, Rick Richards, Chip Dolan, and of course Jack... it sounds amazing on the radio (thanks KPFT among others)

The second CD ("You Shoulda Been Here Yesterday") is a live recording taken from six different venues of our 2007 world tour. It starts at Club Oszcko in Poland and
ends at the Johnsons' in England and has the Bugle Boy, the Hops House and the Riverbarge in the middle. If you were at any of these shows, likely you will hear your
own applause or even your own hoots and hollers! Unwitting guests on this album include Larry Englebretson, The Moods, the Thompsons, Mo Green, Pam Herndon,
Lane Gosnay, Tadeusz, Janusz Tytman, Malcolm, Vivienne, & Rachel Johnson, and a cast of thousands! If you don't see your name here, then trust me
anyway - you're in it.

If you can't make it to a show, please visit one of our online vendors, www.MyTexasMusic.com and www.OutBoundMusic.com. Both outfits will provide quick shipping
and a smile..

THURSDAY, JULY 24th 8:00pm - JP Hops House - 2317 South Highway 6 - NO COVER, (but you will be presented with an opportunity to show kindness in another
way, gotta pay the band, man!! ;)
Across the Water will open with a special acapella set! Musical guests will include - Bill Aspinwall, The Hanshaws, Jack Saunders, Brian Kalinec, Wayne Wilkerson
, Jen Rathbun and one mystery guest.... bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!!!!

FRIDAY, JULY 25th 8:00pm - The Bugle Boy - 1051 North Jefferson, LaGrange
It's just us chickens in this fantastic listening room. Gotta get your tickets online to guarantee a seat... or you'll have to sit in Gary's lap. visit http://www.thebugleboy.com -
while you're there, check out the video of Lane's new Solar-powered car !! Gives the phrase "passing gas" a new meaning!!

SATURDAY, JULY 26th EIGHT IN THE FRIKKIN' MORNING - The Bayou City Farmer's Market - 3000 Richmond
This is our penultimate visit to a great farmer's market. Again, it will not rain. You can eat the Jalapenos here since they are locally grown!!

Gary will return again at the end of August to close the tour. Attached are a few pictures of his new digs in Colorado. Enjoy!

June 14th, 2008

Hi folks (and especially all you folkies)

Last night, we attended Brian Kalinec's show at the Hops House, where he was joined by swing/jazzmaster, Jeff Chambers and bluesman Willie B. The three of them
reached a critical mass of guitar genius on the stage. It was a sight for sore eyes to see so many folks out enjoying these local artists. The Meridian ain't got nuthin'
on the Hops House! HUZZAAHH!!!!

If you missed that show, then join us tonight at 7:30pm. Smythe and Taylor will be special guests at the Houston Folklore Society's annual showcase. The show will
take place at the West University Civic Center located at 6104 Auden. 281-347-3235 . Adults $12.00, seniors $8.00 and anyone who can pass for under 12 are free.
(this worked for me until I was 17).

The Houston Folklore Society is a 501c3 educational foundation whose purpose is to preserve and promote folklore and folk music. This year's showcase will focus on
local, rather than touring acts, and will feature ourselves alongside the accomplished musical heartthrob, Brian Kalinec and the dramatic voice of Bill Ward. This is
bound to be a stellar show. It'll be a big treat for us, since we so rarely get to hear our friends play. We'll be playing tunes from the two new albums and one or two
from past work.

By the way - the two new CD projects are DONE. We expect to have them in our hot little hands in about two weeks, just in time for the release parties in Europe,
Houston, LaGrange and Midland. Since Gary has moved to Colorado, we will be unable to tour enough to support the sale of the typical 1000 unit lot, so we decided
to order 300 pairs. Some folks will want just one, others both, but if you want a copy of the signed and numbered original run, you need to reserve your copy now.
You can get any single CD for $15.00, any two for $25.00 or any three (including other older titles) for $30.00. If you choose to have them mailed with an invoice and
return payment envelope, add $2.00 per CD.

If you want to pick up your copy at a show, tell us:
1. Which show you will pick it up at
2. Which CD(s) you want; 1) the Studio CD (Come What May), 2) the live CD (You Shoulda Been Here Yesterday) or 3) BOTH
3. Send us your name and we'll set your copies aside for pickup at the club of your choice.
If you know you can't make it to a show, you can still reserve your copy by:
1. Sending us your Name and mailing address
2. Which CD(s) you want; 1) the Studio CD (Come What May), 2) the live CD (You Shoulda Been Here Yesterday) or 3) BOTH
3. We will mail you your CDs along with an invoice and return envelope. Couldn't be eaiser!

Any remaining CDs that are not sold, picked up or reserved will be sold on ebay!!!! Since they're signed, we figure they'll be worth a dollar more :)

UPCOMING SHOWS (AKA - CD reserve/pickup locations)
Tonight June 14th, 7:30pm, 6104 Auden, Houston, Texas
Thursday, July 3rd through July 16th, Guilfest, Guildford, England
Thursday, July 24th, 8:00pm JP Hops House, 2317 S. Highway 6
Friday, July 25th, 8:00pm The Bugle Boy, 1051 N. Jefferson, LaGrange, Tx
Sunday, August 3rd, 7:00pm The Museum of the Southwest, 1405 W. Missouri Ave, Midland, Texas

th-th-th-th-that's all, folks!

As we end this phase of Smythe and Taylor, I wanted to say that this has been a once in lifetime musical experience. Smythe and Taylor has been successful beyond
any expectation I had going in, with, e.g., 3 European tours, 7 CDs (4 official S&T CDs), and 200+ venues. Highlights for me have included playing for the 1200 in Midland
who came out to see TC sing "My Real Hometown", playing with the Polish band for thousands in Mrongowa, the Johnson's house concerts and ENT24
stage at Guilfest, playing underground at the Longhorn Cavern in Burnett, sweating at Camp Stupid in Kerrville, playing under the amazingly bright stars in the Davis
Mountains Resort, touring Amsterdam and Krakow, playing on the rickety wooden stage in Josepha, Poland, performing “Hit the Road Again” in Okemah at the Woody
Guthrie Folk Festival, playing the redemption gig at Zeke’s Café, the mountain concerts in Colorado, and meeting all the great people we have come to know, like Jim
and Pam, the Johnsons, the Kruks, the Moods, Milt, McFarland, the Bates, the Silvers, the Thompsons.

I look forward to the future - a Phase 2, if you will. I imagine it will take the form of house concerts (rather than nightclubs), and gigs that co-incide with visits to my
daughter in Austin, or major events like the RiverBarge, St Patrick’s Day/Bob Dylan/John Prine day at the Hops House, and Milt’s in San Antonio. It's impossible to say
if we'll get to go to Europe a 4th time, but if that door is open by a crack, we'll find a way to walk through it. The same goes for Midland, the Bugle Boy, etc. If you'd
like to provide an anchor just call TC at 832 715 5226.

Duo Partner plans farewell tour, holds online contest to determine own next career move

Nose Flute, Polka Bands Top TC's 'Short List'

"There's a whole universe of performance opportunities out there for someone like me", says Smythe, "folk music has been really good to me so far, but it's time to explore a more diverse pallette of music. I've always been a big fan of the Tebetian Nose Flute Orchestra, and an old friend tells me they're looking for a new first chair".

To fully explore her available career paths, Smythe invites any and all to vote in an online poll and/or make suggestions for how she could spend her time each day.

Gary Looks Forward to Shoveling Snow for Self and Neighbors

"I just miss it - ever since Iwas a kid - the whole sweaty neverending business. I've always been a 'process' kind of guy andI think I can bring a whole new method to what used to be a crashing bore. Now it can be a really efficient crashing bore."

Among Taylor's areas of expertise are oil and gas exploration, music, and difficult, pointless, repetitive physical labor.

April 17th, 2008

We're staying one step ahead of the nice men with the nets and the clean white coats this week! Don't rat us out, but here's where we'll be and what we'll be doing!
(Of course, you can always access the details of thse gigs at http://www.SmytheAndTaylor.com )

*************************
Saturday, April 19th will be a MARATHON day (and we are looking forward to it as there is no actual running involved). First thing in the morning, we'll be at the
Bayou City Farmer’s Market from about 8:00 -11:00. 3000 Richmond @ Eastside drive in the parking lot behind the Leisure Learning Unlimited Building. It is
entirely appropriate to throw vegetables at us during this gig. :) No cover, come hungry

When we wrap up that show, we'll hurry on over to the Green Fair at the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church from 12:30-2:30p. This is a new gig for us and
we look forward to meeting some new folks. They want you to come by too and learn what you can do to improve our environment without compromising our lifestyles
(too badly)! It's at 12955 Memorial Drive, west of Beltway 8. No cover.

Around 7:30pm we'll start the last set of music for the First Tee's rescheduled Crawfish Festival. This is a great event – thanks to Willie B, as always for organizing
the multiple bands that entertain throughout the day. We will close down the show about 9:00p, but get there early to make sure the mud bugs don’t give out! Extra
parking can be had in the shopping center across the street from 12589 Whittington near Dairy Ashford. Wow! Also no cover!

remember - all three of these shows are on SATURDAY!
********************
Next Weekend

On Saturday morning, April 26th, Gary will be helping judge the songwriter’s contest at the annual Fiddler’s Frolic in Halletsville. Thanks to Mike Stroup for the invite
two years running. The contest starts at 10:00 AM. If you want to see 100's of fiddlers all doing their thing, check out this fun event. (And don’t miss the food.)
On Saturday evening, April 26th 9:00pm, Smythe and Taylor will be returning to the Elegant Hogg (Kirkwood and Briar Forest). We always have a good time visiting
with Svetla and the regulars there. Come on down! It's a charming and intimate venue.

*******************
Bits and Pieces, This and That, Flotsam and Jetsam

Former KPFT Bluegrass DJ, Rick Gardiner, announced this week that he will be discontinuing the weekly email on local gigs. We will miss this note – we have seen
many a show based on his recommendation – but realize that he has been doing this for many years and probably needs a break. Rick’s Saturday afternoon show
on KPFT, “Pickin’ and Swingin’ “ which ended a few years back still remains the benchmark for acoustic music shows. Rick also took the first professional
photos of Smythe and Taylor that we used in our original promos. Thanks, Rick!

*******************
Well, it’s official

Smythe and Taylor are heading back into White Cat studios. We hope to complete the next project in June so that we can take it to Europe in July – this is a tight
schedule for us – (it took us a year after the recording to get “Live at the Hops House” released!) And if that weren’t enough, we plan to release another live CD in the
same timeframe. This would be our SECOND Double-album release! Yikes. Any and all venues reading this, please contact us soon for a date! We want to fill your
rooms, and you'll love our fans ! We're tired just writing this - I think it's time for a nap!

See you Saturday
TC and Gary

April 7th, 2008
We'd like to start out by thanking all the wonderful folks who came out to see us at our gigs last week! We had a LARGE time playing for you at Lomonte's (1-10 and
HWY 6) and Dosey Doe's (way up north on I-45). We don't often get to play on the north side, so even our old songs felt new again. We were surprised to see so many
famiiliar faces so far from our regular stomping grounds. The show at Lomonte's ran overtime by about an hour, 'cause we had so may requests and somebody
kept feeding wine to TC. (Doh!) If you missed it, never fear, these shows will be repeated in the near future!
Friday, April 11th, 8:00pm, THE BUGLE BOY - This week, as we'll be heading to LaGrange on Friday to play at The Bugle Boy. This venue is about 75 minutes out of
town, but the drive is pleasant and the bluebonnets are out! We sound-check at 6:00pm and from 6:30pm to 7:30pm we'll be having dinner at Bistro 108 - If you'd like to
eat dinner with us before the show, call to make a reservation. 979-968-9108. It is a small venue, and seats may be hard to come by. If we don't see you at dinner,
the music starts at 8:00pm sharp. You owe it to yourself to check out this fabulous listening room. The Bugle Boy has 80 seats available and we just about sold out last
time, so to guarantee your seats purchase them online at the Bugle Boy's website . If you want a taste of what this venue is like when we're there, check
out the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yewLYmyoXuU .

Saturday, April 12th, 7:30pm, LOMONTE'S ITALIAN RESTAURANT - Saturday, we'll return for another appearance at Lomonte's Italian Restaurant. If you missed last
week's stand-out show here, we intend to repeat it (but with different songs:) The food is fabuloso, and if the weather turns wet, we'll be in the lounge. Lomonte's is on
the far west side of Houston, near I-10 and Hwy 6. Reservations for the patio are required! Call (281) 496-0030.

CONGRATULATIONS, TC! - Remember last year when TC disappeared for a week during the summer? Well, that trip was a co-writing retreat with the Dixie Chick's
hit songwriter, Susan Gibson. Together they wrote a song called, "When You're Dead". Leave it to TC to drag Susan down Dirge Alley! The song will be the bonus
track on Gibson's next album, "New Dog, Old Tricks". Look for a June-ish release at www.susangibson.com . Thanks so much, Susan!!!!
Some of you may have noticed a few new features on the website. To give you more reason to stop by, we have added a 'link of the day' to tickle your funnybone, as
well as some erudite quotes to make you ponder the meaning of life. We hope you enjoy them.

Thanks to the folks who came out to the Sunday open mic at the Hops House - we made soem wonderful recordings which will no doubt produce a million seller for
somebody! We're there every Sunay,( but recording is only on the 1st Sundays of the month).

All the best

O’Smythe and O’Taylor Live at JP Hops House, 2317 S. Highway 6,
Saturday March 15th, 8:00pm, No Cover
"All in the wild March-morning I heard the angels call; It was when the moon was setting, and the dark was over all; The trees began to whisper, and the wind began
to roll, And in the wild March-morning I heard them call my soul."

..and we're calling you to check us out at JP Hops House at 8:00pm Saturday, March 15th. If you need another reason to celebrate, it is also the Ides of March. If
you were at this show last year, you'll remember the entire night was an hysterical affair even before Gary lost his voice in mid-song, and launched into a brilliant yet
accurate medley of Bob Dylan songs! The toasts, limericks, jokes and ditties flew from all directions, and unlike Ceasar, nobody had to watch their back (haha)..
This Saturday, S&T will trot out quite a few rarely-heard tunes to celebrate the occasion, so beware not the 'Ides', but the musical weirdness! Still not convinced?
Well, now hear this: We're taking a page from The Hanshaws' playbook and we'll be offering FOOD! Pam's making potato soup, and we're bringing, ..well.. you'll just
have to see,... You want more? How about PRIZES! Remember, if the parking lot overflows, you can park in front of the office building immediately to the north, but
NOT in front of the automotive parts store, 'K? There will be other surprises in store too, as this is the last day Gary will be in town before his vacation in Colorado...
trust me...visit the home page at www.smytheandtaylor.com for a new front page feature... it'll give you a *clue* ....

On Sunday, we will be in LaGrange at the Bugle Boy assisting as celebrity judges in their weekly acoustic showcase. The players are competing each Sunday to play
the venue's high-profile anniversary show. They've been attracting the area's best talent, and we're told by some miracle, they STILL have slots open. We thought we'd
be judging in April but ....SURPRISE we're there this Sunday! The Bugle Boy is located at 1051 Jefferson Avenue (Hwy 77), which is 1/2 mile from Hwy
71. For details, visit http://www.thebugleboy.com . Despite a healthy crowd lately, there were only a half dozen folks signed up to play. If you've already been up there
to play and you didn't win, you CAN sign up again. Starts at 1:30p. 12 spots MAX...

************************
and after all that.......

When Gary gets back from 'vacay', we'll be hitting the hotspots at the First Tee, The Elegant Hogg, a couple of NEW venues, a few cool new open mics, and you can
even look forward to updated content at houstonopenmic.com, tcsmythe.com, soundchick.net, houseconcert.net, gigexchange.us, chicktone.com and the several
Smythe domains. We'll also be updating our content at myspace and facebook.

thanks for staying on the list. We can FEEL you reading this!

Last Wednesday, we had a fine time swilling back the soups, gumbo and breads at the Hops House's new Soup and Music Kitchen nights. The Right Reverend Doctor
Otis Futhermucker proffered a tasty new dish called, "Endangered Species Seafood Gumbo", and Tony Rose made a nice chunky Tomato Basil puree. Gary flexed his
culinary muscle with Portuguese sausage and tortellini soup. Four gallons of soup were gone in about an hour. Thanks to the Hard Time Troubadours (Bob,
Jeff, Tony and Danny) for completing the acoustic sandwich with opposing sets of music. It was great fun!

Very cool birthday show for Saturday, February 9th - 8:00pm - Mystery 3rd guitar player

Three of our all-time greatest fans (we have five, now!) will be celebrating their collective birthdays at the only public show we have in February. When we play the
Hops House we always try to shake it up with a 3rd S&T band member. In the past we've invited Brian Kalinec, Jack Saunders, Jeff Chambers, Tim Walker and Wayne
Wilkerson. Only the shadow know who will be next!! This is weird - The birthday boys and girl were all born on the same day in the same year! Even weirder
- two of 'em are married! And weirder still - two of 'em are twins (hint: they’re not the married ones). If you've been to an S&T show you’ve probably met Rob and Judy
Mood, but now you'll have a chance to meet Judy's twin brother, John, who will receive the distance award for making the long trek from Washington to take
part. These folks define fun, and we hope you can make it out to help us blow out as many as 180 collective birthday candles with them. BYOFE - (bring your own
fire extinguisher) . We will be playing our “greatest hits” as well as a bit of obscurica. We have been gathering requests for the show and have the whole first set of
requests – send us yours. Thanks also to Terry Clarke for inviting his friends from the panhandle – we’ll be sure to sing “West Texas Wind” for them. 8:00pm start,
no cover. - - again - This will be the only public show we have in February- -

This year we are honored to be such a big part of the entertainment schedule onboard the R/B River Explorer. At the end of this tour we will have traveled 15 legs alng t
he Gulf Coast. It’s really become a staple of the S&T annual schedule, and each time we try to make it different and fun. The next time you and your loved ones think
of taking conventional sea cruise, take a look at the R/B Explorer too! It’s truly educational and unique! Riverbarge.com

Thanks all!

Who says folk musicians aren't sportsters? Congratulations to Hops House owner Jim Fowler and Stan Hatch who both finished the Houston marathon! Stop by the
Hops House and check out the big prints of the HH cheering crew who met the runners at mile 16 festooned in their trademark tie dyed tee shirts. The look on Jim's
face is priceless!

TOMORROW NIGHT, January 30th, 7:00pm, SURPRISE!! TC and Gary are the featured guests at the Hard Times Soup and Music Kitchen (AKA Hops House
Wednesdays) . Each Wednesday, the 'Hops' transforms itself into a depression-era diner featuring 3 musical celebrity soup chefs. This week, Otis Futhermucker, Tony
Rose and Gary Taylor will be filling your tins with their unique culinary creations. Otis promises Austrailan seafood gumbo, Gary's bringing a sausage and pasta stew, and
nobody knows what Tony Rose will bring. TC offered to boil up some ramen blocks (with a complete assortment of flavor packages!) but that idea cratered faster than a
souffle in a kickdrum! Instead, she'll bring a nice selection of crackers and breads to sop up your soup.

Music starts at 7:00pm with the Official Hops House Hard Times Troubadors, Jeff, Bob, Danny, and Tony at 7:00pm - S&T start around 8:00pm. Seriously, slide on by for
a set of our singing, a sample of soupy sonnets and some special syrupy serenades. The spirits of Woody Guthrie and Stephen Foster will be summoned forth in a seance
of - of - of really silly alliteration..... No cover. No kiddin'.... 23seventeen South Highway Six (near weStheimer) (Somebody - stop me!)

Thursday, January 31st - TC will be presenting a music industry seminar to the students at Westside High School. (my God it wont stop) If your kiddos attend there, tell '
em the sessions are at 11:10 and 12:45.

Later that evening, will be the last in a series of open mic nights at the Texas Arts Alliance of Clear Lake. (2000 Nasa Road One) Scott Gamlen hosts with his band, "On
Time Airline". TC runs sound. If you're on the south side, stop on by. Early 7:00pm start - no cover. Thanks Scott, for stepping up to the open mic plate!!

Saturday, February 2nd, S&T will once again board the 800-foot-long River Explorer riverbarge for a trip down the intercoastal waterway from Corpus Christi to Galveston.
Last week's excusion was nothing short of amazing. We recorded our show and a barge-full of passengers got to see 1/4 of the world's entire Whooping Crane population.
Over 50 were spotted in one morning as we sailed through the backside of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.

Other riverbarge dates -
February 6th-9th -
February 16th-18th
February 19th-21st

The reservations folks tell us they occasionally get a cancellation. If you didn't use all your Christmas vacation - this ain't a bad way to spend it.... call
1-888-GO-BARGE. see you tomorrow!

Smythe and Taylor Live This Weekend

This Weekend:
After several weeks dominated by private parties, we’re back on the local circuit

The First Tee - Saturday
On Saturday we’ll be adding the musical spice to the First Tee’s Chili Cookoff starting at 2:00. Check out Rob and Julie’s recently refurbished back patio! Completely
covered, fans and pavers...

The Elegant Hogg - Saturday
On Saturday nite we’ll be at the Elegant Hogg from 9:00-1:00. This is fast becoming a music friendly room with many requests for originals. Come hear the story of the
email Gary got from the Dawson Boys – writers of one of our favorite covers, “Cool Carolina Winds” – the first ever contact. Thanks Bob and Ed!

Thanks and Congratulations:
Wedding #1
Many thanks to Gary and Janice for booking us into their post wedding soiree up in Shenandoah this past weekend. We had a fun time fielding requests from the crowd.
Dancing even broke out which is remarkable for an acoustic gig!.

Wedding #2
The weekend before S&T performed at Gary’s daughter’s wedding over in Austin. A good time was had by all and music was at the forefront. As a suprise, S&T
recorded a version of Emmy Lou Harris’ “Love and Happiness” that was played for the father daughter dance. Lisa and Gary recorded a surprise version of David Grey’s
“Be Mine” for the Bride and Groom’s first dance. Also, as a surprise to Cody’s family, the Taylor family band reformed for one night only to play some polkas featuring
Aaron on Drums, Lisa on Bass, Gary on Guitar and Kathy on Accordion. The ghost of Myron Floren was smiling, I’m sure.

Congratulations!
Congratulations to our friend Vincent Mandola of Grappino’s/ Nino’s/ Vincent’s/ Pronto Cucinino Italian restaurants for being featured in the Houston Chronicle. We
have spent many a pleasant night on Grappino’s patio. Stop by for dinner when you are down in the Montrose – you won’t be disappointed.

See you stageside!

Smythe and Taylor Live this Week
This is a busy and varied week – we’ll be in Houston, the Woodlands, Georgetown and Cat Springs. We were scarce last week, as we attended the Southwest Regional
Folk Alliance music industry conference. The conference is an opportunity for independent artists to have private auditions for music venue owners from across the country.
It was fun to swap songs with so many great writers that until now, we only knew by reputation. The Houston music community was well
represented by the Houston Association of Acoustic Musicians (HAAM) and Songdog Records. We were on “Guildford time”, jamming ‘til 4:00 AM. Thanks to all who
made it happen!

Here’s the skinny---

Manor Care, Houston (Tuesday, Oct 9th, 10:00 AM)
S&T are back by special request. This is a gig for the residents at Manor Care. We’ll be focused on some of our favorites from the 40’s.

John Prine’s Birthday Party, JP Hops House (Wednesday Oct 10th, 8:00 PM)
This is an annual event for S&T and we’ll be joining a host of others in singing the songs of legendary songwriter, John Prine in an Open Mic format. Bring your guitar
and Prine songs and join in. If we are lucky, that rare bird, Dennis Glendening will be in atendance. His Prine-file is encyclopedic! Add Bob Yoh's repertoire and you’ve
got a party. This is the 7th annual so you know it’s got legs. They don't call it "JP" Hops House for nuthin'!

Dosey Doe, near the Woodlands (Friday, Oct 12th 6:30 PM)
This is a new gig for us and we’re celebrating by having Wayne Wilkerson, well known woodworking wizard join us on guitar. The licks will flow fast and free. Doesey
Doe is an old resurrected barn brought in board by board from Kentucky, giving it a cool down home feel to contrast with an upscale menu. This is a serious music
venue – check out their lineup. (Radney Foster was there the night before when we visited last.)

SIRE Benefit, Cat Springs (Saturday Oct 13th, 11:30 AM)
This is our fifth year to provide entertainment at the SIRE (Self Improvement Through Riding Education) Ride-a-Thon, one of our favorite causes. We'll be doing both
kinds of music at this one – Country and Western.

Sun City Amphitheatre, Georgetown (Saturday October 13th, 6:00 PM)
We are looking forward to playing for a crowd of 150+. We crossed paths with some of these nice folks when we played our totally acoustic “underground” concert in
Longhorn Cavern near Burnet and now they’ve invited us back to their place. We are told this is a sell out so check before you make the drive.

HFBSA Mtging/Open Mic JP Hops House, Houston (Sunday 1:30 HFBSA, OM 6:00)
Songwriters Meeting for Gary followed by an Open Mic for TC

See you at the edge of the stage!

September 25th 2007

Hello again!

IN THE NEWS: We have been asked to write the English version of the official Mragowo County Music Festival theme song, "Wszystkie drogi prowadza do Mragowa
" (All roads lead to Mragowa). You can hear the song and see the video t http://www.cezary.makiewicz.pl/video/player.php. Also, we'll be working on a translation of a
pop ballad for polish producer, Marek Kruk. We look forward to these challenging projects!

S&T have two shows this weekend as we get back on the 'bandwagon' - (for all dates, see www.smytheantaylor.com)
Gitcher bib on! Friday night, we'll be at Gabby's Bar-B-Q on Telephone Road @ Loop 610. Saturday, we're eating BBQ again at another Gabby's on Shepherd Dr. North
of Loop 610. Both shows start at 6:30pm. (We usually get tons of leftovers at these gigs, and no doubt, TC will leave hers in the car overnight again. :)

On Sunday, TC hosts the open mic at JP Hops House at 6:00pm, but before that, we'll be stopping by The Elegant Hogg (1900 Kirkwood @ Briar Forest) ) to help them
celebrate their 2nd anniversary. Party starts at 4:00pm.

There is also another major event that day that Gary will attend on behalf of S&T:
Sunday September 30th, 4:00pm -1:00am
Benefit Performance for Mark Zeus
Cosmos Café
69 Heights Blvd, Houston, TX 77007
713-802-2144
www.cosmoshouston.com

Mark Zeus is a staple of the Houston acoustic music community and serves in a leadership postion with the Houston Association of Acoustic Musicians (HAAM). Every
now and then you can hear him on KPFT radio as a co-host of HAAM's Monday afternoon radio show. He has organized benefits for several other musicians when they've
been in need and now he's on the receiving end.

He needs double hip replacement surgery which he has managed to arrange for himself, but there is no financial relief for the two months he will be out of work. There's
no cover charge for the show, but we suggest a big love donation when you go: There will also be raffles and a silent auction. Check out this lineup!
Big John Mills with Forest Wayne Allen, BJ Mizell, Brian Kalinec, Tom Tranchilla, Jim Kam, Acoustic Villains, Larry Cooper, Selia Qynn, Ray Younkin, Hank Woji,
Glynace Eastham, Robert Frith, Mark Beets, Derek Aramburu, Ken Gaines with Wayne Wilkerson, Bill Ward, Steve Reno, Patti Sullivan, Gary Burgess, Kristen Jensen,
Matt Harlan, Kim Carson, Danny Everitt, Shake Russell, and the Romeo Dogs.
The first week of October, we'll be in Austin attending the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance. This is the place where acoustic musicians can get together to network,
and perform for venue owners from across the country. We'll attend seminars on the music business during the days, but the nights will be given over to a series of
showcases in various rooms throughout the grounds. We have two showcase slots on Friday night - wish us luck!

Later in October, we head to Austin again to sing at Lisa Taylor's wedding. That's right - Gary's little girl is gettin' hitched! We wanted to play a medley of Wierd Al
Yankovic tunes and drinking songs from The Reverend Billy C. Wirtz, but we'll probably play something sweet and syrupy instead. Oh well, what're ya gonna do?

That's about it for now.

August 8th, 2007

We returned from tour a week ago, and it's taken awhile to get the photos back! Each of the below sections pertain to a leg of the tour.  If you're not up for the details,
you can click on the pictures for the photo tour of each country/area. ENJOY!!

Colorado (photo tour)

S&T were happy to be back at the Colorado Front Range, having toured there two years ago. We arrived a day early visiting Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park to get acclimated to the elevation by going up Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous road in the US.  We were sucking for air at 12,000’, having started at 50’ in Houston that same morning.  RMNP was beautiful as always, seeing large herds of elk and passing though snowfields. We toured the Pearl Street mall to check out the street musicians in Boulder and stopped by the famed Boulder Theatre before heading to the wedding.

We were pleased to be invited to entertain at Gail and Bill’s wedding reception, held at his sister’s beautiful country estate, especially since it was a small, mainly family, wedding. It was good to see some familiar faces from the earlier Austin gig that we did at Gail’s. We enjoyed sharing the stage with the Bill, Mike and Mike, AKA The Big Lizard Boys. It was a beautiful catered reception that went well into the night, as did the music.

That night we stayed with Mike and Richelle and family at their cool old converted Dairy Barn. We got a tour of their flower farm - arrangements sold right out of the
roadside studio.

That afternoon we headed over to nearby Superior for a great house concert at Jay and China’s place with a full view of the Front Range. The folks were up for two sets
of music which was fun, joined occasionally by several others. Jay joined in on 12 string – when is the last time you saw a 60’s Guild F-212? – his knowledge of folk
music is nothing short of encyclopedic! The next morning it was off to the airport for the flight home.

West Texas

(Photo Tour - Fort Davis)

(Photo Tour - Midland)

Among the 10,000 hits on the S&T video on YouTube of “My Real Hometown” were a few people who invited us there, turning West Texas into the second leg of the tour. We piled into TC’s Jeep we headed off for Midland. That drive from Iraan to Midland proves there are still  some wide open spaces in the west. Nine hours later we were there to play our gig at the Mahogony Room of the Hilton.  Thanks to Lisa Grissom and Ronn Reeger of Promising Projects for inviting us and thanks to those that came out to see us. TJ the bar manager, from Amsterdam, showed us great hospitality. The next day we had time to tour Midland, seeing all TC’s old haunts such as her Grandmothers house, Hill Park, and Midland High School.

That evening we were invited to play a short set at the VFW hall for a benefit sock hop. It was a true West Texas experience with hoola-hoops and a kissing booth.

The next morning we picked Joy up at the airport, getting ready for the three hour drive to Fort Davis and the Davis Mountain Resort for our annual 4th of July gig with the Bates. Many thanks to the 80 or so who came out to the picnic and songfest. We appreciated the response. We even had surprise fireworks synced with the music – things are getting high tech for S&T and the Bates family's annual party!  That night we stayed way up the rocky road, on the next hill over from McDonald Observatory, one of the darkest places in the states.

Talk about a million stars!

After packing up the next morning we headed back to Midland to get ready for our show at the Museum of the Southwest.  It is a great venue with a weekly Sunday afternoon concert series and there were 900-1000 people spread out on the lawn. Of course, one of the highlights was “My Real Hometown” and thanks to all who bought CD’s. It was a record day for us. All that was left was to head back into the darkness, dodging deer and heading back toward Houston.

England (Photo Tour)

It took only 8 hours to get to Gatwick, a shorter time than to reach Fort Davis. Destination Guildford, and a return to Guilfest, with its six stages of music, tons of vendors, and best of all our hosts right across the street with the use of their extra flat made logistics easy. Thanks to Gavin Thomas and Tony Scott for the opportunity to play on the ENTS24 stage. We were pleased to be on the same stage as the SawDoctors and Richard Thompson – he did Vincent ’52 so it was a good thing we didn’t include it in our set!  We also did an impromptu set at the Unison Tent, even fearlessly following the Fabulous Fezheads performance troupe.

Gavin invited us to play a latenight spot at the ACM tent– it was full of after hours listeners. Guilfest was loaded with good music including our friends Gavin Thomas, Th’Great Outdoors, Simon Friend (of the Levellers) and Redwood.

After the festival we were able to see the countryside, and lunching in a half a dozen quaint pubs, each one historic and serving good food. Malcolm and Vivienne took us to the country, and walked around Box Hill, mentioned in Richard Thomson’s song – beautiful setting.

We over-nighted at Rachel and Rob’s in Brighton a cool seaside resort. That night we had Spanish Tapas and went to see our friends “Th’ Great Outdoors” perform. The next day we had a great leisurely Italian lunch and walked the lanes after visiting the Royal Pavillion, the royal getaway by the sea.

We had three fun pub gigs at The Tup, The King's Head, and The Albany. These were arranged by Gavin, Francois, anad David Crouch. On the final song at the King’s Head we were joined by Gavin and Tony Scott with Tony singing a Satchmo inspired version of “Summertime”.

Thanks to the venue owners and others that made those happen – Gavin, Kate, Francois, the Johnsons… - for inviting us. We played no less than five afterparties concerts/jam sessions thanks to the endless hospitality and bottomless beer cooler of the Johnsons. Our sincere appreciation to all who came out to see us so many times at these different venues. We are sure that you have heard quite enough from S&T for a while.

On our free day, we took the train in and toured London, including Westminster Abbey. We met Peter Oakman at his favorite Turkish restaurant south of Regent’s Park
for a dinner of lamb’s liver, wine and great conversation. Peter who played with many well known groups, including skiffle king Lonnie Donigan came all the way from the
East End to Guilford to join us on bass at the Albany – many thanks. If you don’t think we sang “Does Your Chewing Gum Lose it’s Flavor on the Bedpost
Overnight” then you don’t know us very well. We enjoyed catching Gavin Thomas at several of his gigs. The last night Simon Friend from the Levellers came in to share
a few songs. We also went to see a cricket match and were getting the hang of it when the rain brought the tarp out. It was a four day match so they had plenty
of time. The stumps, the bails, the popping crease – hey we’re plugged in. As 10cc would say “I don’t like cricket… I love it”.

 Poland (Photo Tour)

So far we'd been blessed with smooth travels, and Poland didn't dissapoint. Despite no phone contact at all, our host and mandolin player, Janusz Tytman arrived at the airport with flowers in hand to welcome us onto Polish soil. We headed straight to Mragowo (a 3 hour drive). We stayed at the Hotel Club Mazury, just two clicks from the festival.

Once our things were settled in the hotel, we headed out to the festival grounds to see what was shaking. Our first stop was the unofficial stage across the street from the fest.

The Gladek rothers brought their trailer stage and put on a C&W show as authentic as any at Blanco's.  Of course, we just had to stay for the afterparty.. (many blurry hours pass)

The next day (Saturday), we reported to the stage area for soundcheck, and we were stunned at the size of the stage and rigging. We had to wonder how we lucked into such a high-profile gig. There were television cameras, flying camera booms, JUMBOTRONS, and dancers. As it turns out , this is their nationally-televised version of the Grand Ole Opry, and we had the cherry spot on the last day of the festival. At this point, we discovered that Janusz has played the festival 25 years in a row, and pulled

some strings to get us in. His friend, Tomasz Szwed loaned us his band for two rehearsal sessions, so that we would look like the big deal that, of course, we are!   :).
After that, we watched the show, featuring Jarrod Birmingham (one of our fellow MTM artists) from Victoria!  The place was so crowded, hundreds had to watch from
outside the gates. Afterward, we spent a fun evening back at the unofficial campground swillin' back the 'wodka' with the dancing girls. TC did all the swillin' - Gary
supervised.

On Sunday, we ate a Polish breakfast of meat, meat and more meat. Then we dropped our CDs off at a merchandise booth run by festival hero, Cezary Makeiwicz (who
wrote the festival's theme song). He sold so many, we were down to the spare CDs on the spindles.. We reported to artist hospitality backstage and they gave us (gasp!)
A DRESSING ROOM!. Our show and all of the running around was video recorded by Cezary's videographer. During the show, Gary blew everyone away with
his Polish dialogue between songs.  After our performance in front of thousands (see the pictures!) we went back to the booth to sign autographs and take pictures with
our new fans. We'll never get tired of that! Then we went back to the campground for more music and fun, our work was done!

The next day, we went back to Warsaw to spend a night with last year's sponsors, Marek and Agnieszka Kruk.  Just when we thought things would wind down, Marek decided to bring us along to am embassy reception hosted by the Moraccan ambassador to Poland. It was as surreal as a Dali painting to be sipping champagne with hundreds of dignitaries, the ambassadors from Columbia, Malaysia (who is a guitar player!) , and the United States. We stuck out like a sore thumb in our western wear.

Marek's latest recording studio addition include his new acoustic tiling, iso booth and protools workstation. A shame we didn't have time to record something but we had to fly to London the next day.

Houston (Photo Tour)

Getting back home after a month on the road was nice, although our hosts made it very hard to leave.  It was no accident that we wanted the Hops House to be our first stop back on US soil. To make the show special, we invited two guests to perform - Susan Gibson (Dixie Chicks' writer) and local up-and-comer, Brett Mouton.  Sue enjoyed brett at SRO Sports Bar a few weeks earlier, and she insisted we have him along. Proud papa, Keith Mouton was in the audience too. A better crowd was never assembled, and our good friends, the Bates family made sure there were pictures to share afterward.  Maybe he didn't get enough of us in Fort Davis! There were so many familiar faces - many we hadn't seen in a year!  If you were there, thanks for coming. A full house is a thing of joy, indeed!

LaGrange (Photos)

The tour came to an end at our favorite out-of-town venue, The Bugle Boy. Susan stayed along for the ride, and we focused on original work for another full house of LaGrange residents as well as a few folks imported from Houston (Thanks, Kathy, Bill, Gail, Rob, Judy, Mike and Julie). Two videos have been posted on youtube here and here. Thanks, Lane for helping to create video proof that we ever left town!

The second leg of the Smythe and Taylor World Tour - West Texas

Thursday, July 5th
It rained all the way from Houston to Kerrville, but when we reached the bone-dry mesas, we knew we were getting close to Midland. The town rose up from the horizon
like a yellow-bricked Oz! After a left turn on Wall Street we set up for a gig at the Hilton's Mahogany Listening Lounge. Lisa Grissom of Promising Productions set up
the date for us, and we had a nice time performing for the hotel’s patrons and a group of music fans from our Midland Myspace community. It’s a new series
that started in April, and it already has its own regulars! Congratulations Rick and Lisa for starting a listening room in far west Texas! Thanks also to TJ the bartender,
who kept the room well-oiled!

Friday, July 6th
We spent this non-show day seeing the sights in Midland. The G Street Park, Dennis The Menace Park, one of Dubya’s boyhood homes (all three houses are
designated national landmarks - but TC's old house didn't have so much as a plaque! Go figure.) - the list goes on and on! That night we played a short set at a 50’s
sock hop fundraiser at the VFW hall, an invitation from Kim who saw us at the Hilton the night before. The kissing booth was a real throwback, which we unfortunately
could not indulge, what with our upcoming gigs. You guys are too important to risk illness! Later that evening we dropped in on The Bar to see local tribute band
FreeRide play to a full house and had dinner at Luigi's on Wall Street.

Saturday, July 7th
In the morning we drove out to the Midland Airport to pick up Joy Bates. Joy was one of our hosts for the show in Fort Davis, so we gave her a ride down to the Davis
Mountains Resort to join her hubby, Bruce, for their annual 4th of July Bomb Detonation. Gary entertained us during the drive by singing three delightful hours of Buck
Owens tunes as well as show tunes from “Oklahoma” and “The Music Man”. Oh... joy. Once we arrived, we were installed into Fran’s Cottages. She has three
cabins that look exactly like doll houses on the side of the mountain, and the stars were almost within our reach at 6800 feet. This is one of the darkest places in the
US – it is no coincidence that MacDonald Observatory is just over on the next hill! The show was held at the community's clubhouse, and they even set off some
serious fireworks between our sets. Thanks to the 80 or so folks who attended the party. It was good to see so many friends there from last year. As always Bruce,
Joy and Sara were great hosts. We'll see you next year!

Sunday, July 8th
Sunday was back to Midland for S&T's appearance at the Museum of the Southwest’s summer concert-on-the-lawn series. Thanks to Joan for the back stage tour of
the museum and setting us up with the gig. It is a beautiful venue out on the lawn and thanks to the 900-1000 folks that showed up and listened to the folkies from
Houston. Folks were very attentive, which we appreciated. “My Real Hometown”, about Midland, was a winner with the hometown crowd. It was a great honor to
share our music with such a large crowd. Thanks to all of you who took home CDs! It was a great night. Special thanks to Jimmy Patterson from the Midland Reporter
Telegram for the 2/3 page article and photo in the Sunday paper. Unbelieveable!

1700 miles later, we are ready for the third leg of the world tour – it’s off to London on Thursday.

Stay tuned on the myspace page for updates. (http://www.myspace.com/smytheandtaylor) We won't have access to regular email until we return August 1st.

Thanks for riding along!

July 3rd, 2007

We appreciate the great hospitality shown to us in Colorado this past weekend. We got to see the sights and play several intimate venues across the front range of
the Rockies. It couldn’t have been more fun!

June 29 Arriving in Denver
We left for the airport at 4:30am because we anticipated security challenges resulting from the recent events at airports in Great Britain. No doubt, the TSA would
be extra-vigilant at Intercontinental Airport too. As it turns out, the lines weren’t that long, and even though we were carrying guitar cases, we didn’t have any problems
getting our bags checked and through security. At the Denver airport, it was just as smooth – but we were pretty winded just getting from the jetway to
baggage collection!

We chose to arrive a day before our first show so that we could acclimate ourselves to the high altitude. Gary thought a shopping trip to Estes Park and the Rocky
Mountain National Park would be beneficial. So we rented a car and headed up Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous road in the US. It peaked at about 12,000 feet!
We stopped at the Alpine visitor’s center on top of Mount Chapin. There were snow fields close to the road and we stopped long enough to make a few snow
balls, but boy, even Gary’s lungs were just a-burnin’ and TC was seeing stars! The rest of the day, we spent shopping in the tourist district in Estes Park and rehearsed
a few numbers outside the hotel for the other guests.June 30th.

Thanks to Bill and Gail Aspinwall for the invitation to perform at their Wedding reception on Saturday. It was an honor. After a beautiful low keyed ceremony in at St,
John’s Episcopal Church in downtown Boulder, all retired to Sally and Phil’s very cool estate out in the country for a fancy four course meal, al fresco catered by the
Mateo Restaurant. After a four-course French meal, we performed on a stage, with lights and sound in the backyard. Bill, Mike and Mike, (AKA, the Big Lizard
Boys), played some of their blues, jazz and folk tunes. Then we joined them for some unplugged sing-a-longs until 2:00am. A great time was had by all, especially
us. Congratulations to Bill and Gail!

That night we stayed with Richelle, Mike, Dylan and Jake at their house built from an old converted Dairy Barn. What a neat place with enough projects for several
lifetimes. They grow over 50 varieties of flowers and sell arrangements from their home.July 1st

In the morning, Richelle fed us waffles from scratch with strawberries and whipped cream before we headed down the road.
Our next stop was Jay and China Leonard’s large (food filled) house with a panoramic view of the Flatirons and the rest of the front range. Jay has an encyclopedic
knowledge of east coast 60’s folk music and shared his Martin D-28 herringbone, 60’s vintage Guild F-212 and Vega 5 string banjo. Gary could not resist playing some
Gordon Lightfoot on the 12 string. Before the concert, we visited with Nick, who is a first-rate piano player. He was great and had “Wimp” wired by verse two.
About thirty guests attended and they were very in touch with our kind of music – thanks for listening and for picking up CDs! – We had the pleasure of entertaining
them for two sets. None had ever attended a house concert before, but we’re sure it won’t be their last! Between the 1st and 2nd sets we were joined by Clay on Banjo
and by Jay on 12 string. When the party finally wound down, we sampled some of Jay’s folk CDs and DVDs.

July 2nd
After spending a comfortable night with our hosts it was off to the airport and back home to get ready for the next leg. If this leg is any indicator, the rest of the tour
will be just as fun.

Check back here for photos soon.

Our westside fans don't have to go far to find Smythe and Taylor this weekend.. We'll return to Texas Traditions restuarant this Friday, June 22nd, 6:00pm. Our
recommendation: The Chicken Fried Steak! Split it with a friend, or you'll still be eating it during the 2nd set. :) 5321 Highway Blvd (across from the rice dryers). We'll
be featuring all our best bluegrass and C&W numbers.
Saturday night we've been invited back to The Elegant Hogg, a cozy neighborhood tavern located at the corner of Briar Forest and Kirkwood. This is one of the places
where we can realize our lifelong fantasy of being rock-n-roll godZ! We might even turn the amp all the way up to '3'.  Gary promises to wear spandex - don't miss this...
We are neck-deep in work getting ready for the Europe tour.
Remember the lvie recording sessions we had at the Bugle Boy and the Hops house? TC is working with Lindsay Rash to cull, clean and beat the tracks into submission.

We'll be doing double duty at the Urban Harvest Farmer's Market this month. A great warm-up for the show that night. The market is not visible from Richmond Avenue
- you have to drive behind the Leisure Learning Unlimited building. See us also on the 9th!

Sunday, June 3rd - JP Hops House Open Mic - 2317 S. Highway 6 - 6:00PM - no cover
TC has been hosting this open mic event since 2000 and it just keeps getting better. We have more than our fair share of pro-caliber players, as well as startling new
talent. All levels of ability are welcome and we also feature spoken-word artists. We don't call it an 'open mic' for nothing! Every parade needs an audience and this
show has been the best bet on Sunday nights in Houston for many years.

A big thanks to the crowd that showed up over at JP Hops House last Saturday for our Bob Dylan Birthday Bash show. It was great to see a full house to hear us trade
off 30 or so Dylan songs with our good friend Jack Saunders. While focused on the 60’s, we had songs representing 15 different albums. Thanks to Dennis Walker for
creating the cool poster image with profiles of Gary, TC, Jack and Bob. The feedback has been very strong and we’re thinking we might have to make it an
annual event.

The West Texas tour is shaping up nicely. We've booked a show at a new listening room in Midland called the Mahogany Listening Lounge in the Midland Hilton on
Thursday, July 5th at 8:00pm. If you're looking to host a Smythe and Taylor house concert during this leg, we still have Friday July 6th open. Call us if you need us!
832 715 5226. House concert On the 7th we'll drive down to Fort Davis to play Bruce Bates' Independence Day Bash and we wrap it up on the 8th at the Museum of
the Southwest in Midland. Thanks to Lisa Grissom of Promising Productions for gettign us the Hilton gig, the Bates famil;y for their continued support, and Jimmy
Patterson of the Midland Reporter-Telelgram for his media help with the Museum gig.

We're hitting the road tomorrow!

Tomorrow, Thursday, May 3rd - San Antonio - The Scenic Loop Cafe. We've been invited by well-known singer-songwriter, Btuch Morgan to share the stage with him at
this new San Antonio area eatery and patio venue. The pics on their website are very inviting. We met Butch at the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance in Austin last year
and have been itching for a chance to swap gig swith him. He appeared recently at teh Hops House with Matt Harlan. Check out their website at
www.scenicloopcafe.com . If you'd like to make the drive, here are better directions than yahoo can provide. DIRECTIONS: From San Antonio: take I-10 West for 5 miles
past 1604, take exit #551 (Boerne Stage Road/Leon Springs), at the stop sign turn left onto Boerne Stage Road, follow road for 3 miles to intersection of Boerne
Stage Road and Scenic Loop Road, at stop sign cafe will be to your right.

Friday, May 4th - The Bugle Boy, 1051 N. Jefferson (Hwy 77) in LaGrange. This is another great excuse for a road trip for our Houston fans. The venue is a scant
90 minutes from downtown Houston. The end of the trail will find you in what Texas Music Monthly calls, "The Best Little Listening Room In Texas". And who are
we to disagree? Owner Lane Gosnay prides herself in providing the very best aural envoronment in her WWII army barrack building restored by the Sons of Hermann.
Couches and coffee/wine will make this feel like your own living room.

Saturday, May 5th - 8:00am - Onion Creek Farmer's Market. 3106 White Oak Blvd. We return again to serenade the marmelade! Great breakfast available here too.

Saturday, May 5th - 1:00pm - The Yale Street Arts Market - 548 West 19th Street . We like to shop before we play - join us every 1st Saturday.....

Saturday, May 5th 9:00pm - Smythe and Taylor will light up The Elegant Hogg with plenty of upbeat tunes. Full bar and panninis! Jin us at the corner of Briar Forest and
Kirkwood. No cover. See the great big poster of us on the front door! Wow!

If you see only one show in May, make it the annual “Thanks Bob” fest at Dan Electro’s on May 19th. Thanks again to David Fahl for organizing the multi-act, multi-hour,
mega-fun gig celebrating the music of Bob Dylan. There are always lots of memorable performances. We have always participated, but will miss it this year to a long-
standing commitment. Thanks, Bob and Thanks, David

May 24th is TC’s birthday, May 24th is Bob Dylan’s birthday, so… we have asked Jack Saunders to join is at JP Hops House on May 26th for a night of Dylan music,
since we won’t get our fix with Fahl and folk the week before. We will be visiting many of your favorites, many of our favorites and some just plain obscurica. Look for
most from the 60’s, but it’ll be all Bob, all night. Don’t miss this one – one night only. They’ll be many songs that we never play. And having Jack join us is a
rare treat for us (and you). He himself is quite the Dylanist. Hey, send us a note with your requests, maybe we can add them. And if all that wasn’t enough, come by
to say Happy B Day to TC. We’ll get her a party hat.

The recent past:

Thanks from Gary to Mike and Julie Stroup for the invitation to the Fiddlers’ Frolic in Halletsville – lots of friendly people there - and thanks for the tour of their “Animal
Farm” in nearby Moravia. We sat around the dining room table and picked Bob (Wills), Buck (Owens) and Beatles. Mike and company were in rare form during Friday
night’s concert in Moulton.
April 16th

Thanks to all who came out this weekend to catch some live music this weekend.

It was a fun time at our return to Sweet Mesquite – we enjoyed the requests and ended up singing four or five that we’ve never done before. We’ll add a few of those to
our set list. Among others, thanks to the Moods for coming out as well as Larry E. and even a few Amoco folks we hadn't seen since 'the great exodus'. We'll be
returning there on June 8th..

Thanks to Rob and Juli for hosting their annual Crawfish Fest at the First Tee. The weather was beautiful, mudbugs were hot and spicy, and the house and back patio
were packed. Thanks to Willie B for setting up the PA and producing the lineup. We enjoyed sharing the stage with The Right Righteous Reverend Otis, Willie B. The
Blues Pigs, The Hanshaws, and Gary Seber. Jeff Hoofard kept the beat moving for everyone on drums. Thanks to Jeff and Willie for joining us onstage for our set.
Then the crowd assembled at the Annual Open Mic awards organized by Pam Herndon at JP Hops along with TC, who is the host of the weekly open mic. It was a hoot
with upwards of 30 players! see the Hops House website (http://www.jphopshouse.com) for the award recipients and photos. They should be up soon.

And Hey, Now Hear This!
Congratulations to our friends who are getting major press. Mr. Leon Hatterman, of Weimer, the “Eggman” at the Urban Harvest farmer’s market who sells up to 200
dozen eggs on any given Saturday was featured in a major Houston Chronicle article. Congratulations also to Monica Pope, chef and owner of T’afia restaurant (right
on the edge of midtown) for her nomination for a prestigious James Beard Foundation Award (“Best Chef of the Southwest”). She also was chosen along with
several other well known chefs to design cool kitchens for new museum district town homes and had a nice photo in the Chronicle. Check out the Saturday Farmer’s
market at T’afia. Our good friends at Grappinos/Nino’s/Vincents Italian restaurants were also featured in the Houston Press. A guaranteed excellent meal at
any of the three restaurants.

We’re scarce in Houston the rest of April, but we will be performing at the BP tent in LaGrange at the halfway point for the BP MS150 bicycle event this Saturday the
21st from 1:00 until they kick us out. It's always a good time and with 13,000 riders in the audience it is a huge annual event for us. Right after that, TC will be riding
herd as Production Coordinator for all 8 stages of the upcoming Houston International Festival in downtown Houston, Until April 29th. To see who she will be
herding, visit the festival's website at http://www.ifest.org. She still needs a few more hands to assist the backline company at all stages. Check it out! After the I-Fest,
S&T will be gearing up to work on selling yet another batch of “Maybe it’s Because I'm Missing You” CDs, hot off the press. The new version features larger text
and a much prettier disc face. Our thanks to Steve Puccio at Houston Records for giving us the best rate we've ever heard of and a personal tour of their replication plant.
It is a Rube Goldberg wonder!

On the horizon, Smythe and Taylor will be appearing live at The Scenic Loop Café, in San Antonio, with Butch Morgan on 5/3 and we also return to the The Bugle Boy
Café, in LaGrange on 5/4. Way in the future, look for us to appear with Across The Water in June! More later on that.....

Thanks for listening,
TC and Gary
April 13th, 2007

Tonight - S&T will be playing at the Sweet Mesquite restaurant at 1570 South Dairy Ashford this evening. Don't know how this one slipped past the radar on our last
note, but we didn't want our west-siders to go hungry ! We hope you will join us!

Sunday afternoon, we'll be appearing at The First Tee Pub, 14569 Whittington . The show is on the back patio, and features many wonderful local artists performing
all day. You'll see Willie-B, The Reverend Doctor Otis Futhermucker, Jen Rathbun, The Hanshaws and of course us, too. It's their 4th Annual Mud Bug Feast. The
crawfish will meet their maker at 1:00pm sharp and the music will go all day. S&T are scheduled for 4:00-5:00pm, then it's off to.. (drum roll)
The Houston Open Mic Awards - 6:00pm - JP Hops House - 2317 S. Highway 6

I'm sure you've all heard about this from other sources, but it's always been a great event with a full house and lots of laughs. We'll still conduct the open mic, but the
format *may* have to be reduced to two songs so that everyone can play. Awards will be presented between players. For a comprehensive list of awards and nominees,
visit http://www.jphopshouse.com

A big round of our thanks go to Jimmy Patterson of the Midland-Reporter Telegram for his most complimentary article this week. We've had great luck with all of our
interviews, but this one was particularly sweet. Some of you may already know that TC will reurn to Midland in July to play a show for the Museum of the Southwets's
Summer Concert Series. If you live in the Permian Basin, or any point west of Houston, and you'd like to try a house-concert on the weekend of July 7th-8th,
there are easy instructions available at http://www.houseconcert.us - It's way easier than you think... We'll have our own sound system in tow, so no crowd will be too big!
Thanks also to TC's cousin Timber Floyd for assisting with our calendar and mailing us a hard copy of the article - the pictures look great!
If you've read this far, then by definition, YEW RAWK!!!
thanks,
TC and Gary

Well, what great weather we're having - no doubt it's just a prelude to a great weekend! Yadahoodie!!
For our Katy-area fans - Our gig at Texas Traditions Restaurant has been cancelled due to the holiday. But never fear, we'll be back at this great eatery soon!
Saturday, we'll be the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed acoustic bunnies at the Onion Creek Farmer's Market just east of Montrose on White Oak Drive. We start at 8:00am,
so get there before the good greens all wilt! No cover.

Then we head over to the Yale Street Arts Market to entertain at 1:00pm. No cover! The featured artist at the market this month is Cindy Babbitt. Babbitt's art background
includes photography, mural painting, graphics, medical illustration floral design and teaching art. How cool!
If you missed Jack's Mucky Duck show last Friday, head out tomorrow (Friday) to Sansone's at 14144 Westheimer to see the Jack Saunders Band. The CD release
show at the Duck went so well he may already be into his 2nd pressing of the new CD, "Living For The Sunshine". It's full of great songs. Owning this CD will make you
33% more intelligent than you already are.

Sunday, April 8th, check out our buddy Mark Zeus at Blanco's for an early evening show and CD release of "ONE MAGIC MOMENT". 3406 West Alabama 6-10pm, at
Blanco's Bar and Grill! Again, invest in this artist! You'll become more attractive - we guarantee it!

Congratulations to
Brian Kalinec on his latest CD, "Last Man Standing". We couldn't be at the release party, but we understand it was a smokin' good time at Blanco's!
Way to go, Brian! We already have our copies, and it sounds wonderful! Check out his site at

Also kudos to Matt Harlan for his live album release of "Pure Volume". It contains one of our favorite tunes, "Waiting For Godot". Check out his
very cool myspace page .
His next show is at JP Hops House April 21st, 8:00pm

Speaking fo which, S&T are looking for a myspace expert. We have our page up, but still can't add friends for whatever reason. Conctact TC if you're willing or able
to help.

Also,l the entire performing schedule for the Houston International Festival has been posted. There are over 170 acts playing this year (many of them you know!) on
8 stages. If that aint' worth the $12 ticket, I don't know what is! Take a look .

Happy Easter/Passover/Prophet's day everybody!

TC and Gary

Just a quick note from Smythe and Taylor to let you know that the St. Patrick's day photos, courtesy of Rob Mood (Thanks, Rob!) are up on the website
(http://www.smytheandtaylor.com). Thanks to the crowd that came out to enjoy a mix of Irish songs, Irish toasts and curses, S&T originals and other obscurica all in a
set that was being modified on the fly as Gary's voice became more hoarse and Dylanesque thanks to the springtime pollen. The Hops House (with Pam, the Queen of the
Corn Dogs), were once again chosen to be the official outlet of this complete meal on a stick, and between the corndogs, the green beer and the festive family friendly feel
of the evening, the Hops House was once again your one stop shopping choice for St. Patrick's Day. Here's a tip of the hat to all who made it out.

Thanks again to Sam and Bob, from KVET 98.1 radio in Austin for playing "You Can't Be a Wimp and Live in Texas" several days running. Sam and Bob are the drivetime
jocks and are the 2006 CMA Award winners for "Broadcast Personality of the Year - Large Market" and not afraid to play a little independent music. The report is that they
got it from someone from New Jersey. We think that there is a Georgetown connection as we had played from a group from there in Longhorn Cavern
the week before. Longhorn Cavern was our first true "underground" gig. Thanks to Al for the great tour of the cave. We also enjoyed trading a few songs with Jimmie Lee
Jones at Poodie's in Spicewood on the big deck. He was previewing a few tunes for us that he is going to record for Willie Nelson's new record label.
Congrats to J. L. - stop by his open mic at Poodie's if you are in the neighborhood on OM night.

S&T are laying low, gig-wise for the next couple weeks. TC will be up in Linden, doing some recording at the Texas Music Awards next weekend while Gary and Kathy
will be in Fredericksburg climbing Enchanted Rock and eating German food. The following weekend, S&T have left Friday open to be in the audience at
Jack Saunders CD release party at the Mucky Duck. Join us there on Friday night, 3/30.
March 1st, 2007
Hello everyone!

THE WEEK IN REVIEW
It was way cold last Saturday at the Urban Harvest Farmer's Market. TC attempted a solo gig with Gary out of town, but 40 degrees F is apparently below the physical
limit for playing guitar outside. Never fear though, the weather looks promising for this Saturday at the Onion Creek Market on White Oak Drive near Studemont. The
place feels like a piece of Austin magically created in the Heights! We start at about 8:30am. Breakfast is served at 6:30am. The chocolate croissants are to die
for!! Check this place out! .

Our gig at Texas Tradition restaurant in Katy went very well. The room was full most of the night. We can eat dinner with the patrons at this venue, and the chicken fried
steak hung off the plate, just like it should! Thanks to the Moods for coming out, as well as a few of our Katy regulars. If you're one of our west side fans, it looks like
Texas Tradition will be the new "Zebo's" for S&T. Come out tomorrow at 6:00pm if you can!

We appeared on Channel 17 Houston Media Source last weekend to promote the Rockin' for Rise benefit next Saturday along with Wayne Wilkerson and Pete Simple. It
was exhilarating to think that tens of you were watching, and we were able to sandwich an interview between two songs. The Rise School is a 501(c)3 charity primarily
serving children with Downs Syndrome. For details .

On Monday we had a fabulous time at the PUGS industry social at the Westchase Marriott. Wayne Wilkerson joined us on guitar, and we sounded larger than life in the
huge ballroom. Once in awhile, we're able to feature a 3rd player, and we always enjoy Wayne's contribution!

Now, the upcoming gigs!

Friday, March 2nd, 6:00p
We appear again at Texas Traditions, 5321 Highway Blvd in Katy
Saturday, March 3rd, 9:00a
Onion Creek Farmer's Market, 3106 White Oak Dr. in Houston
Saturday, March 3rd, 4:15p
The Rockin' For Rise Benefit at the Last Concert Café, 1403 Nance St. in Houston. Trout Fishing in America opens the show at noon !!
Sunday, March 4th, 6:00p
TC hosts the monthly Open Mic Recording at JP Hops House open mic, 2317 S. Highway 6 in Houston.
For details about the recording opportunity

Be safe!

Hi Friends!

Our shows at the Hops House last Saturday was one of the most fun we’ve ever had! The first set was primarily new original music and new arrangements of obscure
covers. It was fun to make our regulars feel like new fans again. We opened up the second set to requests and played songs from all 5 of our albums and our favorite
covers. If you've never been to the Hops House, you should go. Visit their calendar at http://www.jphopshouse.com .

Last night, we played a surprise birthday party for John Osha at Little Woodrow's on West Alabama. His wife, Beth Liebling, won a silent auction bid from the Cancer
Society's Cattlebaron's Ball - and we were the prize! We talked John into sharing the mic with us during the second set and a good time was had by all. He's quite the fingerpicker!
Tonight (Friday) we'll drop in to play at a new venue - Big John's Ice House. It's located on the corner of Dairy Ashford and Briar Forest. Show starts at 7:00pm - no cover.
On Saturday morning, we return to the Onion Creek Farmer's Market on White Oak Blvd just west of Monstrose. We start at (gack!) 9:00am. Later that evening, we'll
try on another new venue, Texas Traditions, 5321 Highway Boulevard (also known as US Alt 90) in Katy. Take the Katy Fort Bend Road exit and keep-a-goin'! We'll
be on the patio, but if the weather turns bad, we'll move inside.

Lastly, TC hosts the weekly open mic every Sunday at JP Hops House at 6:00pm. But there's a new twist! We are now offering live recordings of your set! For details
visit http://www.soundchick.net. Also, the Hops House would like to invite everyone to their New Year's Eve party. The open mic that night will go from 6p-9p, and then
Willie B and the Silverbacks take the stage until after midnight. Pam loves a good theme party, and this one will be funny - It's a pajama party! So get out those ol'
granny gowns and nightcaps - see you in 2007!

We have a busy holiday season coming up and we hope one of our gigs is near you. Click on the 'Tour Dates' link to see the details, maps, directions, etc . We have
ONE date left in December for a holiday house concert, (Fri., Dec. 22nd) so if you want it, better call us now! 832 715 5226.

Smythe and Taylor would like to organize a special trip aboard the "Riverbarge Explorer" for our friends and family. It's like taking a cruise, except its more relaxed, less
crowded, has more scenery, and no dress code. The scenery changes every 10 seconds - just like a giant Viewmaster! At the end of the trip, you'll know you had a vacation!
We have four opportunities to entertain on the barge in January and February. On each occasion, the barge will deliver us between Houston and Corpus Christi (or from
Corpus to Houston). Please reply and let us know if you are interested. Pricing will be determined after we establish the size of the group.

The dates for the Houston-Corpus route will be: Jan 26th-28th, Jan. 30-31, and Feb. 9th-11th.
You can read about the barge and it's programs at http://www.riverbarge.com

On Friday night, we'll raise the dead at Ron's Pub, 1826 Fountainview @ San Felipe. It's a 9:30pm start.. Wear your best exo-skeleton!.

Saturday morning, you can find us at the Midtown Farmer's Market, corner of Travis and Alabama in front of the T'afia Restuarant. 8:30am start - no cover and the
McMonica sandwiches are to DIE for!!

Saturday night, we'll scare the meat off your bones with a deadly twang at Gabby's BBQ, on Shepherd , north of Loop 610. 6:30pm start, no cover, and no rest for the wicked.

After Gabby's you can head over to the Hops House to see Shake-your-bones-Russell and the Fowler Brothers. 9:00pm start, $15 cover. Cotume contest and free Boo-ffet!

Sunday is the Hops House's open mic night, and TC hosts at 6:00pm until the witching hour. Wear your costumes! 2317 S. Highway 6 near Westheimer.

A Monday gig can be a scary thing, but our fans are fearless! Join us at a new venue - Claudio's in Kemah, 700 Kip Avenue. We have a feature set during their open
mic at 9:00pm. Musicians eat for free and there's no cover, so you can exercise those fangs!!

Early risers can rol out of their coffins to get a taste of S&T before sunrise on KPFT 90.1FM's Reach Out In The Darkness! We play at 5:00am on Wednesday morning,.
We'll be asking for your money for the station. Now THAT's scary!

In other news, don't forget to vote in the midterm elections. We're endorsing Kinky Friedman for governor. If you don't know where your early polling location is, visit
kinkyfriedman.com. If you are a Pacifica member, it's time to fill out your ballot and mail it in. Check out our endorsements on the homepage. Click right here right now!

What a hoot we had in Austin last weekend! Many thanks go to the showcase hosts who let S&T entertain them at the SouthWest Regional Folk Alliance. They were:
Uncle Calvin's, Meredith Ray of BatKat, The Houston Association of Acoustic Musicians, (HAAM) and Charlie Stewart and Jim Dirden of Handshake Management. If all
goes well, you can look for us at a house concert near you!!

For our northside friends we have a show at MainStreet Crossing on Friday in Tomball, 111 West Main Street. The show starts at 8:30pm and has a $5.00 cover. We've
been here before, and they have a most excelllent sound system, so sayeth the soundchick....
On Saturday, our early rising fans can catch us at our newest farmer's market venue, at the Onion Creek Cafe, 2706 White Oak Drive. We start before 9:00am, no cover.
Gitcher greens on!!

Later that day, we head back to Austin to play a House Concert with the Big Lizard Boys. If you live in Austin and want to come, there are a few seats left, but you need
to e-mail us at tc@smytheandtaylor.com first. Invitations will be checked at the door.

Well, that was mercifully short!
September 25th, 2006

Thursday, TC goes to Austin to attend the SouthWest Regional Folk Alliance (SWRFA) conference to showcase with our friends from the
Houston Association of Acoustic Musicians. You can attend any unnofficial showcase for free at the Woodward Hotel, 3401 I-35 South. TC will be performing solo sets
at 11:30pm (In the North Texas Venues showcase room), and 12:00am (in the BatKat showcase room). The purpose of this event is to put independent artists in front
of booking agents and venue owners. If we have a nice crowd, it will make us look good!

Friday, we drive back by 6:00pm to open for Texas megastars, Honeybrowne at Sierra Plantation. That same night at 9:30pm, we'll return to Ron's Pub after a three month hiatus.
Then we drive right back to Austin to play three showcases at SWRFA on Saturday. Smythe AND Taylor will perform at 11:00pm in the HAAM showcase room, 11:30pm
in the Handshake Management showcase room and again in the HAAM showcase room at 1:40am. Again, The purpose of this event is to put independent artists in front

We head back home to Houston on Sunday where Gary will be hosting the HFBSA's songwriting workshop at 3:00pm and of couse the Open Mic will follow at 6:00pm.
Thanks so much for supporting Smythe and Taylor!
September 18th, 2006

This Saturday afternoon there are two big events you need to know about!

at 3:00pm there will be a benefit at MyBar (5406 N. Hwy 6) for Houston based guitarist, Freddie Everett. In a devastating stroke of bad luck, Freddy has lost the use of his hands to Lou Gehrig's Disease (a form of ALS). It goes without saying that Freddie has no insurance, but his family needs some short term help until they can get some things straightened out.

We'll be there early to make a donation, and we hope you will be too. Following the benefit, at 9:00pm, we head south on Hwy 6 to the Hops House (2317 S. Highway 6) to record the 2nd half of our live CD project. We'll play 2 sets of music for the recording and maybe another set just for fun. Many thanks to Lindsay Rash for being able to record us on his new Sonar System. The rough mixes of the Bugle Boy show sound great, and we'll be focusing on songs that need another try and some new ones that we didn't have time for.

Last week, Gary went to Chicago on business (he is an organizational consultant when not playing guitar). You can learn more about his work at Doug Hanson Resources.  In the evenings, he took in some great live music and Chicago-style pizza. TC used the time off to go to central Texas and co-write with Susan Gibson for a couple of days. They came out with 37 pages of complete and half-complete ideas - some from scratch - others from old fragments.

But it's time to get back on the acoustic wagon!.

When we have nights off, we often try to support other songwriters, and we couldn't think of a better way to spend a Tuesday, so tomorrow, we'll be visiting McGonigel's Mucky Duck to see Susan Gibson and Ginger Leigh. The show starts at 8:00pm. $10.00 cover - food and beer/wine are available. 2425 Norfolk Drive. Join us if you can!

This Wednesday, TC will be recording backing vocals on a Bill Aspinwall tune, "Mr. Crippen's Banjo". It's a very cute call-and-response arrangement that is guaranteed good fun. Look for his new solo project soon.

Recently, we were asked to record a couple of cover versions of the Carole King hit, "You've Got A Friend" for use on KPFT 90.1FM. They have a new afternoon spot, "Adopt-A-Friend" which highlights a different animal each week for on-air adoption. When a female animal is showcased, TC's version is played, and when the animal more closely resembles Gary, then they play his version (woof woof). The feature airs every weekday at 5:58pm.... If you want to hear Gary's dog Sophie (also an adopted animal) singing the tune, click here...

KPFT needs new versions of "You've Got A Friend" to keep the show interesting. The entire spot is about 2:00 long, and the music is used at the intro and outro of the show. If you want to participate, record your version, rip it to an MP3 and send it to Scotty MacClymonds at blimycapn@oplink.net

In other dog-related news - Be one of the first to get the new 2007 Texas Howlers calendar. This 12 month calendar features 12 Texas musicians and the mutts that love them. The calendar is a celebration of 2 of the things that Central Texas loves the most - music and mutts! Bob Schneider, Lyle Lovett, Susan Gibson Michael Fracasso and Patty Griffin are just a few of the musicians who donated their time and images to the dogs of Blue Dog Rescue. Calendars are $15.00 plus shipping. Pre-orders will get shipping free!

The rest of the week, we'll be rehearsing tunes for a live CD recording at the Hops House on Saturday.

If you can't make it out west on Saturday, please check out our friend, Mark Zeus at the Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe in Galveston. His show starts at 9:00pm and is located at 413 20th Street in Gavleston.

Early Warning - Smythe and Taylor have been asked once again to perform aboard the River Explorer Riverbarge. The exact dates are not set in stone yet, but you can see the fun we had last year!

th-th-th-that's all folks!!

It had to happen sometime -

Just when things are going smoothly and we've finished up all the high profile stuff for this year, you'd think we'd be ready for a big fat break, but NOOOOO - we need
more excitement in our lives, so we've decided (sort of at the last minute) to record a new live CD. Why? Well, there are a number of strong originals that didn't get
written or learned well enough in time for the last record and they're reaching critical mass. "She's gonna blow!" if we don't get these down on tape.

On Friday, August 25th (just a few days away!) we have a gig scheduled at The Bugle Boy, a listening room located in LaGrange, about 90 minutes away. It's a
really cool old army barrack that has been renovated to the much grander purpose of presenting live music! We also reserved Lindsay Rash to capture signal for
us and run front of house sound. He's gonna make you sound like a cast of thousands!! Post production will be handled by our sage mentor, Jack Saunders
(www.whitecatproductions.com) .

If you come to our recording you'll get to be a part of the project. A quirky multi-media invitation awaits you at http://www.smytheandtaylor.com so turn on your
speakers when you get there. Only 80 seats will be available at the show, so gitcher reservation now by calling Lane at 979-968-9944. We'll be playing stuff you've
never heard as well as stuff that you wish you could hear more of.

If you're unable to make it to the Bugle Boy, then please support Willie-B and the Silverbacks as they sub for us at our monthly gig at Ron's Pub. I know he'll
appreciate it. Also, join us for the follow-up recording session at JP Hops House on September 23rd. More on that one later!

If you can't make it to The Bugle Boy, you'd have a lot of fun at JP Hops House on the 25th, 26th and 27th as they celebrate Spudstock - a celebration of Woodstock's
39th anniversay, as well as Mr. Potatohead's 54th birthday. We'll be there on Sunday doing a short set as part of the Spudstock open mic. Visit their website at
http://www.jphopshouse.com to find out about the "Dress Your Spud" contest and the usual 156 potato bar toppings. And don't forget to wear your grooviest threads
, man! If you play the open mic, your name will appear on the official Spudstock T-shirt - now that's heavy!

Also, we have several house concerts coming up, one in San Antonio, in the next few weeks. You can have your own. It's easy! It's affordable! Ask us how or visit
www.houseconcert.us .
Yours in song - TC and Gary
August 3rd, 2006 - Back in the Groove!

Good morning!

It's taken some time to get the website back into shape since returning from overseas, but we've finally managed to upload all the new content to the website. We're
glad to be back home again, and thankfully, didn't suffer any jet lag.

In addition to the Europe photos, the site now contains new photos of the
West Texas gigs and the audio bytes from our 2nd interview with
The Artist First World Radio Network. This is the interview where we re-cap the events of our tour. The first interview with DJ Phi was very nice, but there was considerable
line buzz over the phone that we felt no one could stand for an hour. If you want to hear that interview, we'll post it, but we need to hear from you if you do. The 2nd interview is sampled
low-res and partitioned into 10 minute segments of about 5 mg each. It was a great interview and we thank "Z-Man" for including us on this show. They are doing what
radio stations everywhere should be doing.

This evening, we'll be returning to our old haunt,
Grappino Di Nino's at 2817 West Dallas Street (near Montrose) at 5:30pm. Since this is the place where the tour
was hatched, it feels almost like coming full circle. Join us for something with vodka sauce on it!

Our Saturday gig at Zebo's coffeeshop has been cancelled due to a change in ownership. We've had this gig every first Saturday for a couple of years and we'd hate
to lose any of the great fans we've met out there. I'm told that a sale is pending, so please let the new owners know you'd like to have S&T back in front, blocking the
view of the pastry case. Call 'em at 281-392-8806, and tell 'em, "I want my Smythe and Taylor!". We'd like to thank previous owner, Becky for her support of S&T
and we wish her well with her new focus of provding coffee and warmth to her new customers in the Christus Hospital chain.

TC will be back at
JP Hops House this Sunday at 6:00pm for the open mic. This event has been going strong for about 6 years, and shows no signs of stopping.

Monday, we'll be featured live on the
HAAM (Houston Association of Acoustic Musicians) radio show on KPFT 90.1FM where we'll tell more tales of the road. The
show starts at 3:00pm and can be streamed from http://www.kpft.org . For our overseas friends in England, stream us at 9:00pm! If you're in Poland, try it at 10:00pm..

That's it for now - stay in touch!
July 11th, 2006

June 29th, 2006 - Getting Ready!

Our last gig in Houston (before the tour) will be on Thursday, July 6th. We return to where the tour idea was hatched - Grappino Di Nino's. 2817 West Dallas. How
appropriate! 5:30pm show - no cover.

Before we say anything at all, we'd like to thank everyone who is making our 2006 World Tour possible. It's only two weeks away!

Malcolm Johnson is a manager with the LNG Division of Royal Dutch Shell in the Netherlands. We met him while playing at Grappino Di Nino's a couple of years ago, and he hatched the idea of us coming to Europe. He lives in Guildford, Surrey, England, where his wife, Vivian, serves on the City Council. Thanks also to Tony Scott, the festival organizer for the invitation to the Guilford Music Festival. Check out the eclectic lineup at the festival's website .

We're on the bill with Donovan, The Waterboys, Hayseed Dixie, Billy Idol, Ah-Ha, Gary Numan and Blue Oyster Cult and many others! If you find yourself near Surrey, England, drop in on the Guildford Music Festival. We'll be on the Surrey Advertiser's Stage Sunday, July 16th at 2:00pm.

Malcolm will also be producing our Holland leg as he works in The Hague and knows a pub owner that must owe him one big honkin' favor! Thanks again, Malcolm!

To warm up for the World Tour, we put together a quick four-city Texas Tour. The first stop was last Saturday at the Wharton County Farmer's Market. This is a seasonal market held every Saturday May through July and features locally manufactured art and organic produce. We played in front of the historic Plaza Theatre and kicked off their annual Freedom Fest.

We'll hit the long and dusty road for our second stop Friday, July 7th when we descend on the Railroad Blues Bar and Grill in Alpine, Texas for some afternoon pickin' on the porch. The third stop we'll travel to Marfa to sing to the mysterious Marfa Lights. The very next day, we'll play a house concert for Bruce Bates at his new place in Fort Davis. Bruce has hired us four years in a row for his 4th of July weekend, only this time, it ain't in Seabrook!

TOUR ITINERARY -

We get a short rest until Friday, July 14th when we board that 'big ol' jet airliner' and head for the UK. If you live near Intercontinental Airport, come out and see us off! We leave on Continental Flight #34 at 3:45pm for London.

Gary is anxious to return to his old stomping grounds in Poland. Janusz Tytman has arranged several additional dates for us and he and his world class picking friends will join us on stage. Smythe and Taylor will be playing at the Warsaw “Country Club” and in Otwock. You can hear Janusz's mandolin and mandocello on Gary's first CD, "Down At Zeke's".

We leave for the Hague on Tuesday, July 18th, play some shows there, and then we go to Warsaw, Poland on the 21st. That part of the trip will include a train ride to Krakow. These very train tracks inspired Gary's original song, "Southbound Train" which can be heard here. Then we return to London and on to Houston on the 25th.

We probably won't have cellphone service, but we intend to blog while we're gone. To get updates and pics of the tour, check back here. We'll also have guestbook up so you can send us messages via the website. We're traveling very light, so please don't ask for souvenirs larger than a thimble!

If it's impossible for you to join us in Europe for the shows - please support our friends at JP Hops House while we're gone. They've been so good to us!

FROM RUSTY WINZ - local musician - PLEASE READ!!

On 6/28/06 between 10:00 and 11:20pm at Blancos Bar & Grill on W. Alabama somebody smashed the window out of my truck and stole two guitars. They got a (cheap) Ibanez GRX20 solid body electric, black on black, and a brand new (not so cheap) Seagull M6 Cutaway Acoustic /Electric. I'm asking for your help. If you were there and saw or heard anything please call me. Also please keep an eye out for these guitars. If you see any musicians with new posessions as described, or if you happen across them at pawn shops or music stores, please let me know. June 13th, 2006 - Welcome Back!

Since the last newsletter, S&T visited San Antonio to play a House Concert and birthday party for Col. Milton McFarland, friend of our good friends, Barbara and Terry Clarke. (Hey Terry - send us pictures!) He converted his garage into a bistro with food and drinks, and we played until the rum was gone! (no small part due to TC swillin' back the hooch! - it's one of our perks, y'know)

The day after the show, we stopped at Mi Tierra for a traditional Mexican breakfast. We were stunned and surprised to find not one, but TWO live music acts in the restaurant at 9:00am on a SUNDAY! (and we thought WE worked hard!) The place was so pretty with thousands and thousands of Christmas lights festooning the ceiling.

After brekkie, we went shopping at a local art market to get souvenirs for our families. You can bargain like a bad boy at some of these places, but Gary managed to get through without losing all his tip money. TC can't say that....

Just last week, TC returned from a week of well-earned vacation with her husband, Kenton, in Acapulco. The picture pretty much sums up what they did. Hadn't had a vacation in many many years...(not pictured - 10,000 pina coladas!)  They stayed at the Hyatt Regency hotel on Acapulco Bay. This was the view from the 12th floor room. Horrible, ain't it? THIS IS NOT A POSTCARD.

Well, here is one big honkin' tree right in front of the hotel! They grow 'em big down south! Ay Carumba! TC wanted to climb it, but the guards had great big guns and didn't look very patient.

Upon returning to Houston, it was back to work, at the Bayou City Farmer's Market. They celebrated their 2nd Annual Tomato Festival held the 1st and 2nd weekends of June. We play at this venue every 2nd Saturday of the month.

After the Market gig, we proceeded to the home of Rob and Juli Powers, who own The First Tee Bar. We played beside their beautiful pool, while they hosted a 25th anniversary party for some good friends.

The highlight of the party was the three part harmony we worked out for "Route 66" with Willie B on lead guitar. We also played guitar and dodgeball AT THE SAME TIME! Thanks to Willie B for including us on his gig. Who says we can't rock-n-roll?!
Sunday, TC defeated laryngitis and played a set of music at Fitzgerald's, to benefit the Hepatitis-C awareness radio show on KPFT 90.1FM. Susan Gibson headlined, and TC got to sing backup for the grammy-winner! Thanks to Dean and Shelly for thinking of TC for this event. At the end, Gary got up and played "I Feel The Rain" as the closing number. What a hoot!

Also featured were songwriters Janet Z and April Kelly (pictured). By all accounts, everyone performed at the top of their game. You can hear April's music at aprilkelly.com

Janet's music can be found at thejanetz.com

EARLY WARNINGS

This Thursday night, S&T will play at Sansone's Sports Bar, 14111 Westheimer (behind the What-a-burger). Thursday is ribeye night! Show starts at 8:00pm - no cover. This is a fun bar with darts, billiards, shuffleboard and way-better-than average bar food.

This coming Saturday, we'll be at the Midtown Farmer's Market, 3701 Travis Street in front of the T'Afia restuarant. Come on out and try one of Monica Pope's "McMonica" breakfast sanwiches. They also have yummy chilequiles! Eat while you shop!

As most of you know, our long-awaited Euopean tour is looming large. The final schedule will include three countries. We begin July 16th in Guildford, at the Guilford Music Festival. The event is organized exactly like the Kerrville Folk Festival with camping and all!  We cannot express how grateful we are to our european promoter, Malcolm and Vivian Johnson, for making the trip possible.

On July 18th, we head to The Hague, Holland to perform at some private parties and a pub. Also Malcolm's doing. He is a wiley sort.

On the 21st, we head to Warsaw and Krakow Poland, where Gary will be reunited with his Eastern European friends who played on his album, "Down At Zeke's". No details yet, but it will no doubt be like a house concert setting. Unfortunately, we will be unable to stay for the Country Muzik Piknik, but hey, there's always next year!

May 12, 2006 - SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Hi everybody!

We are pleased to share that Smythe and Taylor are currently ranked #1 in Houston on garageband.com. (but dont' blink!)

Garageband.com is an online showcase of original music from all over the world, and its chairman is former Beatles' producer, Sir George Martin. To see our placement on the Houston chart, go here . This week, they've featured four of our songs as "Track of the Day" and the reviews are pouring in! You can see those at our homepage, SmytheAndTaylor.com

If a song stays in the top 20 of its category through several rounds of online voting, that song will receive airplay on major network radio. You can keep us in this spot by visiting the link, downloading the song and casting your 5-star vote! Don't forget to drop in on Saylor White and The Kat Rose Band - they also have listings in the "Folk Rock" category!

There are thousands of online places where artists can can upload and sell their music. We happen to be affiliated with My Texas Music, Out Bound Music, CDBaby and now GarageBand. If you don't yet have a copy of "Maybe It's Because I'm Missing You", please visit one of these retailers. Your mom won't mind if her Mother's Day gift is late - she'll love you anyway! Click on one of the images!

AND NOW (...drum roll...) THE GIGS:

Tonight, Friday the 12th, 8:30pm we're appearing on the northside at Main Street Crossing in Tomball, 311 North Main Street. This venue has a great sound system and yummy sandwiches. They've lifted the 2-beer maximum limit, so you can drink until you're hearing double and we sound like CSNY! Texas Hold 'em poker tourney in the back. If you win, show a little love to the tip jar, k?

If you can't make it that far north, go west instead and drop in on our buddy, Mark Zeus at Sansone's, 14411 Westheimer.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the 13th, get up early and come see us at the Bayou City Farmer's Market, 3000 Richmond @ Eastside. The weather will be OUTSTANDING - clear and 65 degrees!

Saturday night, we're off, but there are some great choices for your ears. Slaid Cleaves will be at the Mucky Duck (Jack Saunders is there next Friday) , Opie Hendrix and the Texas Tallboys are at JP Hops House.

Thanks for supporting us and the arts in Houston.

May 6th, 2006

Well, it looks like there is a chance of rain this weekend, but that doesn't scare us! All of our outdoor gigs this weekend are covered, so if it rains, we'll just take your requests for rain-themed songs from under the gazebos and have a good laugh.

Saturday morning, we're at a new farmer's market! Bring your lawn chairs to teh square across from City Hall in Wharton. We start at 9:00am under the gazabo.

Later that evening, tote that lawn chair over to Zebos' coffeehouse (corner of Mason Raod and Highland Knolls). If it's raining there, join us inside. After two years, we've developed quite a following there. Great listening environment except when soneone orders an espresso.
Keep that lawn chair in the trunk and join us Sunday. Come see the historical tour of relocated and restored homes at Katy Heritage park, 5990 Gerorge Bush Drive. We play at 1:00pm and at 2:00pm, the public open mic will follow. A sound system and engineer will be provided until 5:00pm. Free food and drinks - children and pets are welcome.
Sunday at 6:00pm we'll head straight over to JP Hops House for the weekly open mic. It's a box of chocolates, so dig in! You can still bring your lawn chair, but Jim and
Pam have plenty of nice seating.
Thanks to all of you who have made our gigs so much fun.
A Smythe and Taylor Breakup?!?

(Now that was just a dirty trick to get you to open the newsletter!)

But seriously, we are performing in so many gigs this weekend, we had to split up to take them all! See below for this marathon schedule

The Week In Review –

Last Monday, we enjoyed playing for the PUGS event at the Marriott Intercontinental. It’s an oil industry trade show for the IT profession. Many thanks to our sponsor, C
harles Fried and PUGS for making it possible. We had Brian Kalinec tearing up the lead guitar that night! Following that early event, we joined Wayne Wilkerson at
the Mucky Duck for his weekly open mic. Usually, it’s hard to get on the list, due to its popularity among locals, but for some strange reason, the #1
slot was still open when we got there, so we took it. Thanks Wayne for joining us on guitar! It was his birthday.
We saw many familiar faces at Ron’s pub last Friday – David Vied and Lena Shamas were there as well as the Moods. It’s always a challenge to put on the rock n
roll hats, but always fun – Gary wants to clobber whoever bought TC the shots of tequila during the first set, as that means he has to come up with all the lyrics in the third set.
Saturday at Zebo’s, we played outside to a full parking lot of wonderful fans. Next time we’ll have to remember to tell folks to bring their own chairs – the venue just
doesn’t have enough!!

The Week Upcoming
THERE ARE FOUR GIGS ON SATURDAY!! This has to be some kind of record!
Gig #1 - We’ll start at 8:00am at Urban Harvest’s Bayou City Farmer’s Market at 3000 Richmond, 9:00-11:00. Try to outrun Gary for the new crop of strawberries which
should be in season. See their website at http://www.urbanharvest.org
Gig #2 - TC will be running sound for #1 hit songwriters, Rob Crosby, Allen Shamblin and Billy Montana as they perform to benefit the Santa Maria Hostel – a recovery
center for addicted women and their children. These writers have penned such familiar hits as “Holdin’ A Good Hand”, “She’s More”, “He Walked On Water”, “Life’s a
Dance” and “Concrete Angel”. The format will be dinner followed by a Writers In The Round. If you want to get tickets, they’re pricey - $150 each, but can still
be had if you call the hostel at 713-957-2413
Gig #3 - In the early evening, Gary will show his sensitive side as he joins Selia Qynn and company at ‘Joni-Fest’, a celebration of Joni Mitchell and her music, at the
Habitat House. Bring a dish to share at 6:30pm and the music gets started around 7:30pm. Donation is $10 and proceeds benefit the Post-Polio Health Organization.
For info, please visit http://www.selia.com/houseconcerts.html
Gig #4 - No rest for the wicked! As soon as Gary can get there, he’ll join Leslie Wood and her band from Austin and remnants of the old Oilfield Grass Bluegrass band
at JP Hops House, 2317 S. Highway 6. Music starts at 7:00. Colorado State geo-alumni will be having a party, but you can join in even if the thought of the mountains
gives you a nose bleed.

If we are still alive on Sunday, Smythe and Taylor will be live at the First Tee splitting the bill with Willie B at their annual Crawfish festival. Come and get ‘em.
Whittington and Dairy Ashford, 3:00-6:00p. TC will then rush to the Hops House for the weekly open mic at 6:00pm.
Tuesday, TC heads to the East Coast (Western Connecticut) to visit relatives and play a show at the UU church in Meriden. She'll be back on the 15th. The following
week, Gary will be out of town on business.
We’re already tired!
Peace, out!

Hi, stalwart fans!

Gary's in Orange County, California this week on business, so this'll be a "Gary-free" newsletter! Usually, when we write the newsletter, I start the text and Gary edits the content to protect our readers and to fit your screen. Well, Bwa-ha-ha-ha!!! I get to say anything I want and he can't stop me, and I can go on and on and on!! Be afraid, be very afraid.

The 4th Annual Texas Music Awards

Last weekend, seventy of Texas' most talented musicians and songwriters gathered at The Music City Theatre in the obscure community of Linden, Texas. The town is just a stone's throw from Texarkana, and is home to only 2,256 people. But with a barrel of old fashioned elbow grease and a plan, these locals managed to produce and present The 4th Annual Texas Music Awards. We didn't take home an award, but we did get to perform during the big show in front of a huge crowd that loved our stuff, and we were proud to

represent the fans who voted for us. It was really cool to hear Michael Martin Murphey introducing us as we waited for the curtain to open. We took lots of pictures on the way there and during our stay. The show consisted of a VIP pre-party, another pre-party

at the VFW hall, a limo ride, red carpet, the 'really big shew', and an afterparty. The next day we played an impromptu house concert. Check out the slideshow.

TC Hits the East Coast

I'll be traveling to Bridgewater, Connecticut from April 11th-15th.

It's unlikely that Gary will be able to go, so I'll probably be playing my very first SOLO SHOWS. I don't have the venue details yet, but it will likely be open mics and
coffeehouses. Stay tuned to our tour dates page in case you have friends or family in that area. I sure could use some friendly faces in the crowd. A house concert would
be even better (hint, hint). My uncle lives there, and I haven't seen him in forever. We plan to see a show in New York, but he won't tell me which one! The tulips
should be in bloom, so I'll take the camera. Could this be the end of Smythe and Taylor as we know it? Hmm, nah, we don't think so.
Our gigs for the next few days..

Thursday, March 30th, Smythe and Taylor will be appearing at Grappino Di Nino's Italian restaurant at 2817 West Dallas Street from 5:30-8:30pm. By the fountain.
Come nosh on some penne alla vodka with us! (Behind Nino's and Vincent's) No cover.

Friday, March 31st, we make our monthly stop at Ron's Pub and White Horse Inn - 1826 Fountainview @ San Felipe. Late show 10:00pm-2:00am. This is where our
folk duo puts on a rock-n-roll hat. No cover.

Saturday April 1st (no foolin') We're playing an early morning gig at the Bayou City Farmer's Market at 3000 Richmond. 8:00am-11:00am - not only good, but good for
ya! No cover.

Saturday April 1st 7:00pm-10:00pm we're back at our favorite coffeehouse, Zebo's at Highland Knolls @ Mason Road in Katy. This venue lets us get away with murder -
so come by and prepare to die! No cover.

Sunday, April 2nd, 6:00pm-12:00am - TC hosts the weekly open mic at JP Hops House at 2317 S. Highway 6 near Westheimer. We've had this venue for 5 years and
there's no sign of slowing down! Best sound anywhere - we dare ya to bring your original material, but covers are also welcome. No cover.
